Buffett Songs That Had to "Grow" On You .....

Post by mismagic »

I know we all have 'em just wondering which songs they are. Two that I can think of off the top of my head are ....

1. Creola
I know, Iknow, but for some reason I just didn't this song at first, it had to grow on me.

2. Autour Du Rocher
The first time I heard this song I was like what the hell??? But I like it now, and have great memories of singing and dancing to this song with Fribble.

I will have to go with Six String Music and pretty much the entire Down To Earth CD. I now love these songs and every other one that has Jimmy Buffett as the writer/performer.

Apocalypso
The Night I Painted the Sky
The Ballad of Skip Wiley

Most everything else I have liked right from the get go, but these three took a while to sink in.

Atour and Altered Boy from FSOTW took the longest to get regular air time. I "liked" em from the first play, but after you really listen to them, they are fantastic.

And as much as I may get bashed for this, I liked Hokey Pokey from day one! Just think about it............"you only have two options........havin' fun or freakin' out"............ Sounds like a concert mentality to me!

ONLY 53 more days till Paradise in Portland!

wow good question cuz it seems like some songs dont really hit you as good, until a lyric or riff gives you that nostalgic-deja vouz thing and it relates to some sordid issue in your life.

i had one of those with "african friend" the other day, never really got it...but then it struck a cord ya know?

Treetop Flier was the first one I really didn't like too much when I first heard it. Love it now....never concentrated on the lyrics at first, but "I don't do bid'ness that don't make me smile" is one my favorite lines (OK not his song, but it's his attitude!).

Same with Zydecoldsmobile on the new album....but after hearing it live, it totally changed for the better for me.

Wow, tough question...but good. It makes me have to think back to the times I heard each song. I'd have to say...

Money Back Gaurantee from the box set. Corny lyrics but knowing that the Neville Bros were involved helped it grow on me.

Boomerang Love from Off To See The Lizard. My kids love Boomerang and because of that I really came to enjoy the song.

Meet Me in Memphis, I don't even know why I didn't like that song at first, because now it is definitely in my top five ever. And honestly, the entire FSOTW album didn't do much for me before the first five or so go arounds and now I can't get enough of Autour du Rocher and Altered Boy. Go figure.

With the exception of the title track, the entire "Beach House on the Moon" album...In fact it's still growing on me, and I've had it since the day it was released.

I've tried to give the "USS Zydecoldsmobile" fair chance to grow on me, but I believe it's a lost cause...

Ya know what song totally kicks ass?? Barefoot Children in the Rain" is such an awesome tune. I wouldn't say it had to grow on me, but I think the first time I heard it was on the tour last year and it's the kind of song that just get's better each time you listen to it. :P

I agree with Daddym on the BHOTM. So far no connection other than Gumbo. It is the least played of any of my Buffett CD's. Maybe in time it will catch on, but not yet.

Pretty much the whole Barometer Soup CD, and now it is one of my favorites! My then boyfriend, now husband gave it to me for my birthday in 1995 and I swear I didn't listen to it all the way through for a couple of years! Someone suggested I really listen to Barefoot Children in the Rain and I did, and from then on, I just loved the whole CD!

Southern Cross and Fruitcakes.

I still have not played the new CD yet, even though I have a copy - I heard it on Radio Margaritaville and is still growing on me.

I am sure I will play it one day

Come on...how can you own FSOTW, live on the FSOTW, be a phan, and not have listened to it???????

Crikey!!!

Give it a go mate, it won't let you down!

and BTW....Southern Cross is all about going to your SOTW.....to each his own, but it's a great tune no matter who's singing it!

Stephen wrote quite a few great tunes......SC and Treetop Flier sure work for me!

Someone watches the Crocodile Hunter hey?
I just have not gotten around to it. I am a creature of habit - I don't like change (weak excuse I know!) - I will do it one day!!

Southern Cross is now my favourite tune, but it did have to grow on me. I really enjoy sitting out on my balcony on a clear night when I have company, sipping a fine bottle of wine, and looking up at the Southern Cross - with it playing in the background!
