Before the Salt???

Post by 2ndGenParrothead »

I was hoping someone will be able to help me out. I heard that Bubba's first record was called "Before the Salt". It supposedly came out before he even got a big record lable. I was wondering two things, one, is this information accurate and if it is how in the heck could i find it. Drop me an email if you know anything.

Thanks for the help fellow parrotheads!

Jimmy's first record is called "Down To Earth" and is readily available on CD in various compilations, the best one is on the Varese Sarabande label "Down To Earth", 2nd best is "Before the Beach" which contains "Down To Earth" and his 2nd LP "High Cumberland Jubilee" on 1 CD. Now go get them... :D

Before the Salt was one of Jimmy's first albums. It was a 33 record i think, that had Don't Bring me Candy and Abandoned on Tuesday. Not sure about that. I think it came out in the late 70's:D

Before The Salt

I have this double album compialtion of Down To Earth and High Cumberland Jubilee. My uncle, Rick Morrow, GAVE it to me as a gift of friendship one summer when I was, I dunno, 19 or something. I never understood what it was about because everyone I talked to had no idea where those tunes came from, but did recognise some of them from what is his third and fourth albums. If my memory serves me right, I believe this came out in 1979 after SOASOASailor was a huge hit.
Jimmy made the point of rereleasing these tracks, with some slight changes from Before The Salt, as well as different mixes from what appeared on Down To Earth and High Cumberland Jubilee, as Before The Beach in 1993 on Marg. Records. Now these first two albums are available in the context that they were meant to be, as opposed to all of those compilations that have come out (American Songwriter, etc..). And they are worth owning. Hearing that glint of the future is interesting, as well as the whole vibe on each record from that time. As a fan of Jimmy Buffett ie not a Parrothead but just a fan of the music, these two albums are must haves.

I found this same compilation titled"Captain America." I have to say I was kinda surprised how good it was. I'm used to the usual and to hear his music from a time period was good stuff.
just tryin' to get by being quiet and shy...
