Fingers
Fingers was great, but essentially his replacement is Doyle Grisham.
If it was my choice I'd stick with Doyle.
I love that steel guitar.

There seems to be a great deal of mystique surrounding the departure of Fingers from the CRB. I don't really care, it's none of my or anyone elses bidness why he left.......it's a common occurrence with bands.
I just know that having NO, NONE, ZERO,NADA harp player leaves a void in many of JB's tunes and I miss it so badly......
John Popper is one hell of a harp player and singer, but his ability and style would not fit in JB's music. He is the front man for BT and should not or would not take a back seat to anyone to play in their band.
Fingers added an element to JB's music that I'm afraid is gone forever....what a shame.......

Fingers definetly left his mark in the Jimmy Buffett history books, but I have not and would not miss his presence on stage again! I like Doyle as the new addition and I kinda think the question gets asked to many times about fingers future with the CR. Its pretty much cut and dry, he's gone!

We ask ourselves when we get in a fix,
what would Popeye do in a tight spot like this?
He'd race to his true love and easily win it, in a all spinach can with a mast stuck in it!

He's a blues man and he wants to play the blues...not Margaritaville anymore...not like there's anything wrong with it, he just wants play the music he's a genius at. Plus, he's got two young kids... Wouldn't we all rather stay close to home if we had young kids at home?
That's the impression I got when I had my chance to talk to the man himself...

Fingers will be 'present' and even playing with one of the warm-up bands (Living Soul) for Buffett this Tuesday at Pine Knob. If Jimmy and Fingers on stage together (at least for one song) doesn't happen this week, then it probably never will.MICHIPHIN wrote:Fingers is a local to the Detroit area, and was "present" at the show in Detroit in 2001. If he has any appearances in him (which I doubt), it would be the Detroit show in June...... The music lives on, with or without Fingers......

I think all the Coral Reefers are fantastic but no matter how well they play them, some songs (i.e., "A Pirate Looks at 40") will always sound better with harmonica. Which brings me to...
Last weekend I went to see a friend's band play in a bar in Tampa. The band that they opened for had an amazing harmonica player but I really wasn't paying attention until this group covered "Wonder Why We Ever Go Home" and the harp solo brought the whole bar to complete silence. The harmonica player was just beyond words. She (yes, she) was talented, witty, and darn cute!

From Don Middlebrook of Living Soul: I would also like to announce publicly that we have released Greg "Fingers" Taylor. Greg has played and recorded with us for the last three years. As much as his talents, experience, and friendship will always be valued and respected, all the big love and tough love could not turn him away from the demons he battles. Rest assured, the band and myself did everything possible to help Greg and much of my memory will be that we succeeded. However, at this juncture, it is no longer in the best interest of the band to subject themselves and, in most cases myself, to his unpredictable behavior. I hope only the best for him and I pray for him as he now goes under someone else's watch.
I wonder if this problem has anything to do with what happened between him and Jimmy. It is very sad..

NEVER WILL!
Trying to Reason, With Hurricane Season......
I don't know why why left but I'm sorry he did and I wish him well.
I think the older stuff just doesn't sound the same without the harp, although I love having Doyle Grisham, too.
Delbert McClinton's looking for work. Jimmy could always call him. Maybe he could even throw a few of his own songs in there the way Clint Black did a few years ago.

After hearing Fingers play myself this weekend locally, I think it is safe for me personally to say that no matter where or who he is playing with, Fingers will be great, a person of his own..yes, it would be great to see him with another legand again (Jimmy that is), but he is doing good and making sweet music with other talents. What I saw this weekend, Erik and Greg could have a good thing starting! Especially when they did play Pirate looks at 40....brought chills....
