I tried to get into this album before going on a millenium carribean cruise. I found it somewhat difficult. Really enjoyed the first song "..Kinja..", however, and "..all About the Water.." Suffice it to say, not my favorite album. Probably much better as a musical with actors.

Allansrule-
You didn't mention whether you had read the book or not. As SofaB, above, has stated... it makes a BIG difference!
btw... thats 1"R" and 2 "B"'s in Caribbean, please. (Sorry it's a pet peeve of mine.)

AllansR.: Carib. makes a good point. The nice thing is, the book is really quite good. Very easy to read. ^^'s up!

Although musically it's an adventure, songwriting wise, it's a totally different take. The best track on here though, without a doubt, is the surprisingly excellent "Island Fever." Although he borrows from a more familiar tune, this song is one of the best tunes he's written in eons and deserves to be on an up to date hits compilation, plopped in amongst Fruitcakes, Barometer Soup, Jamaica Mistaica, Beach House On The Moon, Another Saturday Night, Only Time Will Tell, Everybody's Got A Cousin In Miami, etc......

I have not read the book, yet found this album to be VERY entertaining. In fact I rate it in my top 5 buffett albums, simply for the journey it takes you on. After listening once to get the story the second time around is GREAT!!
now wheres that salt?........

I am still working on the book, but I have to give the album an 7 out of 10. It is a very good album, it just thakes 3 years to work in. So I think it's definintly worth buying.
