Columbia Show Review

Here is an article from The State newspaper - http://www.thestate.com/mld/thestate/5120170.htm
http://www.thestate.com/mld/thestate/5120182.htm

“I was sittin’ around the hotel readin’ the newspaper,” Buffett started. And then he explained that a story in The State described Stan “the Man” Bowen’s dream to play with him and the Coral Reefer Band. A Buffett fan since 1977, Bowen had always wanted to play his maracas during the song “Margaritaville.” When Buffett called him to the stage, the crowd erupted with cheers and chanted “Stan the Man” as he walked out in his flowered sport coat and tall black pirate’s hat.

Then, the band tore into “Margaritaville,” and Bowen, stood at the front of the stage between two dancing girls and shook his maracas.

“Wasting away again in Margaritaville,” Buffett sang. “Looking for my lost shaker of salt. Some people say there’s a woman to blame, but I know, IT’S STAN THE MAN’S FAULT!”

-------------------------

The best part of the evening for me though was his singing of "Prince of Tides" as an encore. I have been waiting a very long time to here him perform that. That one song was worth the whole show for me.

Anyone know Stan the Man from the article. We should make sure he gets a copy of the show.

It was an awesome concert! We drove five hours from South Ga. to see it and it sure was great to be back in the state! Good article in The State. The reporter didn't mention that "Honey Do" was a song to his wife, a Columbia native, who was "Up in South Carolina." We played that song on CD as we traveled to Cola., wondering if he would sing it, so we were thrilled to sing out the lyrics with him! Thx, Jimmy! You are a pro! What a show! Much better than the one we enjoyed 2/14/02 in Tallahassee. He really was into it. :D

P.S. I lost my Jimmy Buffett concert virginity in Columbia SC in 1980! So that made it special to be back. I remember he had his first broken leg and worked it into the Margaritaville lyrics for the first time then. Also, it was the first time he sang "Pencil Thin Moustache," from his "soon-to-be-released" Coconut Telegraph album. :wench:

I know Stan....if he doesn't already have a copy, I'll make sure he gets one! Hey, Gullreefer, will you be doing ParrotStock this year? (Mt Pleasant Hilton June 19-22)

No doubt a 1980 Columbia SC show was a memorable one for you, but "broken leg" was worked into M'ville on "You had to be there" ('78) and PTM mustache was on Living and Dying from '74..

The SC show this year was awesome but the radio margaritaville feed was not so good...You were lucky to be in the house that and glad you enjoy...
