He makes some smart business decisions and all of the sudden its not about the music? I think anyone who listened to FSOTW knows that Jimmy is still about the music.

Upon further review, appears the above quote was a joke.

I can't take another greatest hits. It seems to me that all of the music from Fruitcakes until DSTC is not considered a hit. I am tired of all of the remakes, cover songs, hits. Will Jimmy EVER put out a Whole NEW CD without any covers, remakes, hits? Does Jimmy have it in him to write 10-12 new songs???

same here.I been thinking about the title since last night.I agree with the person who said Jimmy's Buffet would be a good title.I think it's better than the other two.As for me.....I wish it was going to be called "Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw",and I don't care if "why don't we get drunk" isn't on the album.....It's a good title.

MAKIN' MUSIC FOR MONEY
When I woke up this morning
I was tired as I could be
I think I was counting my money
When I should have been counting sheep

My agent he just called me
and told me what I should be
If I would make my music for money
Instead of making music for me

Chorus
I said I know that this may sound funny
But money don't mean nothin' to me
I won't make my music for money, no
I'm gonna make my music for me

He said that people only buy the love songs.
Rock and roll is not too long
He said son you got to be commercial
If you want to turn the people on.

And I said turning on the people
Now that's a beautiful place to be
But if I spend my time makin' memorable rhyme
Well who's gonna turn on me?

Chorus

Well now, I went up the country
And I'll tell you all about the scene
I found a place with much charm and much grace
That was untouched by the music machine
Well the people where havin' a good time
Makin' music all day long
And nobody cared if they ever got paid
One penny for playin' a song

Chorus

(copyed and pasted from our dear ole freinds at margaritaville.com)
and Jimmy theres still so much to be done...

I may have missed this because I'm not too bright...but didn't Jimmy open up a few of the summer shows last year with a "rap" tune that rolled into "meet me in margaritavile"?... Thought maybe that would be on it and why cd might bear that name....

Actually F.S.O.T.W. has five cover songs and 2-3 songs that were already written by someone else and then Jimmy "Buffettized" them. This is a fact, as Jimmy said it himself on the radio margaritville special for the release of the album. He really only wrote the title track entirely by himself, and even that he said Ralph Macdonald wrote the melody, but yet received no song writing credit. I agree with Kozmik Muphin about "Does Jimmy still have it in him to write 10-12 songs by himself" or really co-write with other members of the band, and I don't mean adding a line or two to a song and them slapping your name on the writting credits. And the fact is the last album that he wrote every song for was Don't Stop The Carnival, an album that few fans actually enjoyed. And even with Beach On The Moon, if you read the fans reviews of that album you will see again that it has a lot of mixed reviews, not to mention cover songs. It's pretty sad that the majority of people on these threads agree with Jimmy writing covers and taking other people's songs. Not to mention, if you look at how these cover songs adversly affect his setlists, they end up taking 4 or 5 slots at every single show, slots that can be used for the enormous list of songs that are his and that he should be playing but never does. The guy is very creative and his band is equally as creative, and the fact is that talent is seldom used anymore. So I am one of those fans that do wonder if he does still have it in him to write and entire album of his own material! Only Time Will Tell!!!

Better go back and check your references. Jimmy hasn't filled up a whole CD with ORIGINAL SONGS(not written by someone else, covers, remakes) since..... was it DSTC?

John Prine has released Souveners and Jerry Jeff Walker has released Gypsy Songman which are re-recordings of their songs which were released on their own labels- Oh Boy and Tried and True Music. Both are outstanding, acoustic flavored and personal. Better than the originals which were released on other labels. Why wouldn't Jimmy put out new versions on Mailboat? This just doesn't make sense. He needs to write about two dozen original songs, get his guitar and Robert G's Steel pans and make the quintesential Buffett album. Two cd's worth of Jimmy's own magical music. What do you think? Buffett is the best!!!!!!!

to sound off very disapointed with the listing and canceling of the Jones Beach show, and the supposed new album, has so much talent, and limited output.

So, what's the verdict ?

Is Meet Me in M'ville the same thing as Buffett Buffet ? Are there two new releases ? Or is the M'ville the only one ?? :o

I could care less about the so-called "new album". Its just more money in his pocket and damn near the same list of old songs. I really don't think he can write music anymore that all of us can firmly say is his own. In concert nearly one-fourth to one third of every show nowadays is cover songs. Just like his last album had 5 covers and only one song that he technically wrote by himself. All other songs on F.S.O.T.W. that have his name on for writting credits, he just added one or two lines to. Thats not really writting music. Even Tongight I Just Need My Guitar was written by Mac Macanally. Both him and Jimmy admitted to this. I think Jimmy's "own music" is a real thing of the past and all he concetrates on now is the money. I'm sorry but to me this compilation is a waste of time and a further waste of a talented band!

As for me, I don't go to the shows to watch anyone write the music, furthermore I could care less who wrote it. It's for the atmosphere and the listening of Jimmy and the Coral Reefer Band spin the tales. Lighten up on him. I think remakes of old works are a great idea. Saxophones in Miami was great. I just hope the new CD has Mermaids in the Night and Migration. Sure he's written a lot of wonderful music over the years, most of it seemingly based on personal experiences. He also seems to have found the experiences his calling and may feel he's said most of what needs to be said about them. The Star Spangled Banner was written by one person and has been sung 1000's of times by others, some good and some bad (Roseanne Barr). It's all in the delivery and in my book no one delivers better than JB. His performance and music (personally written or not) take you to a place we all wish we could be and actually alters many people's lifestyles (mine) through the telling. If he never writes another song he has still etched a lifetime of memories which fortunately are recorded for future generations. In the meantime, phins up and laissez les bon temps roulez. See you in Nashville!

A new live version of "Pirate Looks at 40" w/out Fingers is just WRONG! Flat out wrong!

As for covers, I'm just gald he has good taste in music. Also, if you read DSTC and then listen to the album, I think you will realize that he is an even more brilliant and creative songwriter than you previously thought. My guess is that he could write a new album in a day or two, but just doesn't want to.

Please don't misunderstand me. Jimmy is awesome, and has provided many amazing memories for me. I just feel, and this is my opinion, that the last couple of albums he has released has relied to much on outside talent, including little use of his extremely talented band other than Mac Macanally. As far as the shows go, if you like to go and see you favorite artist play other peoples songs when they have a catalog of music that has not seen the light of day in years maybe fine for you.But it's not for me!One or two covers per show is okay, but on average there is 4-6 covers in a 26-27 song setlist. He has around 23 studio albums, think about what he could be playing instead of who he's going to be playing. Not to mention the struggle it is to get tickets for his very limited tour schedule. If he doesn't want to write new music anymore, thats fine too, but please play your own songs! He's got enough of them that we all like to hear!
