The solution to ticket problems

Post by TomLee »

If Clear Channel cared at all, they would make all tickets "Will Call"... this is scalpers (aka "brokers") biggest enemy, because they cant sell them, and they have to actually go to the show...

For those of you who dont know it, most of these tickets were not sold to phans, but to scalpers... here's what they do... hire 25 high school kids to stand in line at outlets... none of these kids are going to the show... neither are the scalpers...

There are many scalpers who read these boards (more than most of you think)... some of them will undoubtably post on here how "will call" only wont work... truth is, it will... yeah, there will be a long line... at great woods, you would have from 11 am - 8 pm to get your tickets... imagine how great it would have been it you could actually have landed pavillion seats...

to beat the scalpers, you have to think like a scalper.... scalpers need tickets in hand, plus time... eliminate the time, eliminate the scalper... all of us looking for great woods tickets were competing with scalpers from california... does that make any sense? those scalpers arent going to mass for a show...

one other option is charge an extra $10/order, and send all tickets via overnight delv to arrive the day before the show.... you scalpers wouldnt like that, would you? no time to list on ebay, huh?

death to scalpers!

I have always said that if I ever sell tickets, I would make the buyer take a Buffett quiz. Don't score high enough, don't get tickets. It also looks like some of the scalpers are on the ticket buying board here. It says on there "no scalping" but they try it anyway.

Best solution is direct mailorder. orders are postmarked on a specific day.... no lines, no hassles. random draw of envelopes with correct postmark until tickets are gone. more and more bands are doing this today.... the Grateful Dead was one of the firsts and it worked! TAKE TICKETMASTER, TICKETBASTARD, TICKETDISASTER OUT OF THE LOOP!!!!

I agree Lee. Everyone has a right to buy tickets to a show. I wasn't tested on Andrew Lloyd Weber in order to see Phantom.
The best way, complain to whatever agencies you can. Your only going to get frustrated and into a circle argument here.

This topic doesn't really need a new thread multiple times a day. Perhaps the moderator's should just create a RANT section that people can be directed to.

Clearly scalpers, brokers, whatever you choose to call them, are on the board. So what? Buffett tours every year and every year it's yadda yadda yadda about tix. Everybody on the BN's board competes with each other to get tix. Read the posts. Everybody has a strategy, and wants tix for multiple shows if they can get them. Some people get zip, while some get into the double figures. Parrothead clubs all over the country probably have strategy meetings to coordinate their plan. Apparently some have figured out that it takes thinking like scalpers/brokers to compete with them.

I noticed the comment made in the HUH? post regarding somebody named Dan selling tix for Merriweather Post. I looked at all of the concerts listed in the Tix Exchange and Dan is selling more than 50 tix for at least 7 different shows. Selling on the same day purchased. Clearly, you don't buy 16 tix for a show and then turn around a sell them if you have any intention of going to the show, unless you scored so many that you can go to ALL the shows, and need to "broker" your surplus to cover air fare to get to them. I guess he might be a true fan, maybe not. Not my call.

There are a lot of solutions to the problem. But the most effective ones are never going to happen, because to many people put themselves ahead of their cause. As to passing the "true fan" test before you sell someone a ticket. What if the person you're quizzing knows more than you, and asks you a question back that stumps you? Do you lower your price 'cause your Buffett I.Q. is lower? Maybe that ought to be a rule too.

Just a few thoughts.

Howdy fellow fins, sharks, & Phans.,,
if you already read this in ticketbastard grrrr. don't read any further...
I grew up in South Fla. and luckily for me Parrotheads wasn't even a word yet.. I was 12 years old then, "77 OK I'm dating myself but i don't mind. And that has been my history as a Phan..
Re; the tix being hard to get, i have done it all from camping out,to buying tix at a show, to paying upwards of $1,000.00 a piece for front row.
from uhh. "brokers" yeah right rapists are more like it.
I have ran into the problem of other concerts going on sale at the same time, at TICKETbASTArd .. even being the next in line and sold out when my number came up and the guy in front of me had 8 tix for Bubba, and bought like 8 tix a piece for 6 different concerts, not including Bubba... I wanted to smack him,, but kept my cool. This past year I have been lucky,, a hint , I log on
about 1-2 hours prior to tix on sale, and damn, i know carpel tunnel is going to set in but i hit refresh every minute about 30 minutes prior to
the sale within 6 minutes prior i hit refresh repeatedly... believe me it's worse than video games.. but i have received my tix doing this...
sorry for dragging this out but it works... I also just do road trips up and down the east coast and midwest and never have had a problem getting tix in the parking lot area... so don't get down,, you can get tix you just have to work for it...wishing y'all.. all the best... and party on LIKE REAL SAILORS !!!..... good luck..hope this helps..

I would prefer that Jimmy would do what U2 did a few years back on a small venue tour.

2 Tickets per buyer, must show ID at the venue to be admitted.

That would clear out all the suckers and the people (like us) that truly want to be there would have great seats.

You guys can stand in line to get tickets, my example was if I had extras that I didn't need. Last time I checked, I wasn't ticketmaster. I just don't want to contribute to the whole scalping aspect of it. If I had extras and you were a PH, then I would have no trouble selling for face value. That is what I have done the last three years.

Final Word! You can't fix the problem until you weed out the corrupted scum inside of TicketMaster. Three weeks beofre these tickets went on sale I came across someone selling 12th row or better to the show in Virginia. 3 WEEKS BEFORE THEY WERE ON SALE! So I check with the broker I usualy do business with and he tells me, "Sure, I can get you 15th row or better, but It'll cost you". Well, how do they know they are going to get them? TicketMaster is more tainted than the New Jersey Division of Motor Vehicles.

TicketMaster needs to be cleaned out or run out of business for corruption. Period. Until then, nothing will be solved.

I do agree that some of your ideas, Will Call etc. are fine ideas, but no one will ever inplement those ideas. To costly for the venues. Like I've mentioned in previous posts, I feel for you all that got shut out. I had my watch set to the second and at exactly 10:00 AM I hit the button to buy. It's the first year I had success, but, at exactly 10:00 AM all I could manage was Last Section, Row HH. That's about 5,000 seats closer to the stage than mine. Is it possible that 5,000 seats could have sold in less than 30 seconds? Impossible
