It's a tie:

The Wino and I Know (August 6, 1996 in Raleigh)
My Head Hurts (August 7, 1996 in Raleigh)

It was the tour where he and Fingers played on the platform in front of the lawn. If I recall, he also did a great Beatles medley as an encore in the second show.

Call me what you will...But I have now been to three shows when he opened with Fruitcakes, the latest was Saturday night Irvine last October....Each show was a special.....The way the drums and horns come in...it gets the whole place to a fever pitch!

I'd have to go with Lage Nom Ai as well, but I really liked Only Time Will Tell from the tour a few years ago.

Since I am usually late leaving the parking lot, I miss a lot of the opening songs. But a few years ago he opened with Great Heart, a nice, long, slow building intro.

I don't recall if it opened the show or just the second half, but I remember a similar long, slow building intro to OPH. That was awesome!

Finally, I like what he did on this mini tour. Tequila is a great opener for the Reefers and then Jimmy just seems to sneak out during Hot Hot Hot (much better than the recorded Buster Poindexter version).

Bottom line, I don't care, just get the party started!

good thread

i think my faves from the concerts I have been to are Great Heart and Only Time Will Tell...both got the show going really well...however, I wasn't that fond of starting with Stars on the Water, it just didn't have the energy that I like in a song to start the show

When I saw the topic Lage Nom was the first one i thought of. That was a great start.

Another vote for Great Heart! I loved that year's (2000) setlist!

Lage Nom Ai was a great opener. That song gets the place going. Although Only Time Will Tell is another one that I thought was really great. I would agree with Stars On The Water not being the best opener. That is a more of the middle of the set song. I wonder what the opening song will be on the Tiki Time Tour?

This is tough! Only Time Will Tell was awesome in 2001 as was Great Heart in 2000! I just thought Stars On the Water wasn't a great choice for last years tour! I'd love for him to open with Barometer Soup this year!!!

I can barely remember Buffett opening with Door Number Three on the lawn in Cincy back in 96 so I'll say that the most recent is my favorite...Pascagoula Run!

:D

November 16, 2001...I had worked all day in Atlanta Ga., and was trapped in the nightmare of the Airport terminal evacution :o while trying to catch a flight to NYC to see JB at MSG. Scrambled and barely made a delayed flight to JFK, ran to the subway and sat on the train all the way to the garden watching my watch let time slip away, as oddly enough, JB is singing "Only Time Will Tell" :( . I did not hear the song, but when I entered the arena he began the second song, "One Particular Harbor", which is the first song I actually heard that night. I spent 3 years studying the Tahitian language and am pretty fluent, so hearing "Ia ora te natura" as I enter the place was as good as it gets for me. How amazing and coincidental that the opening should work out that way for me and on my Mom's birthday as well 8)
