OK lets call this CD by it's real name "Songs you already got!". Why would anyone go out and buy a CD that has all the same songs? Come on people, if you want him to change, send a message. Don't buy the new CD!! If you keep buying, he will keep remaking the same old crap. His current band is a great performing band, but a bad influence on his writing talent. Way too much show not enough go. I am from the old school and have been doing this for many many years and maybe that is why this anoys me more than someone who listens to it for the first time "after school". I will go back to the CoBo stuff that was so full of talent you just keep listening over and over. That is just one man's opinion from a very old parrot head.
I like the "new" CD, but I've always wondered why he doesn't release a Boats Beaches Bars and Ballads sequel; a 4 CD box set of all live material spanning his entire career. Like Springsteen's "Live 1975-1985". We would get 4 CD's of all live material during his different phases throughout his career. I think a lot more people would be happier with something like this.

Hey i may be young, but that doesn't mean i don't know anything. I like buffett's 70's stuff a whole lot more than the new stuff, but i love the new cd. All the songs sound great and if you don't like don't buy it. I'm sure Buffett could careless if you buy it or not.SSSSSnake wrote:OK lets call this CD by it's real name "Songs you already got!". Enjoy the gift, what you want is your version of Jimmy. That's cool but why cant we enjoy this for what it is "Jimmy and his band." We can add and subtract songs all we want, this a great CD set( not the best ever, not even close, but it's good.) I need SUMMER! [/b]
May the wind always be to your back and your beer be cold. We all can't be Jimmy, but we can share his dream.

What I like about the MMIM compilation is that the songs were PICKED by Jimmy for HIS reasons. The one story about learning a secret sound of the Beach Boys when he played with Brian Wilson and then using what he learned and sharing it with us on a NEW cd is fun to me. I like learning about his personal experiences in doing the compilation.
It means something to me, because Jimmy chose the songs and told us the reasons why he chose them. It shows how much he interacts and depends on The Coral Reefers when doing such a project. It also says a lot about his admiration for other artists.
To Jimmy and all the Coral Reefers (from today and yesterday), and the artists Jimmy likes to "cover," thanks for sharing your talents YET again.
This compilation will be as special as 4B's for bringing us up to date on where Jimmy feels he IS.

This is a decent compilation, but I feel utterly shafted by the live songs. I own audience-taped bootleg CD's where the sound quality is better. I mean seriously, is that an acoustic guitar or a kazoo? This sort of fulfils the obvious "in it for the money and I know you'll buy whatever schlock I put out in the market" attitude that Mr. Margaritaville Cafe and Cheesburger in Paradise seems to have lately. When bands like Pearl Jam and Phish can release great sounding live CDs two days after the show, you would think Buffett could put less than ten good sounding live songs out a year or more later. T, Th and S sounded great. I have to insist that Buffett didn't even listen to these live tracks before release, because they are painful to get through!

Know what I like about the CDs? (Amazon just got around to getting them to me yesterday).
As a newish fan, it's fun to hear "new songs". I know they're not new, but they are to me.
Also, as a dork, I like the packaging. I work in the printing industry and really like toe design and the insert book. It's very well done, from a visual standpoint. The songs are cool, and the packaging is almost a work of art in its own right.
Yup...I'm a dork.

OK...another point. Why does the album not mention that Volcano's a new recording? I'm just getting to disk 2 today and almost spit my teeth out when I heard "Don't want to land in Kuwait City..."
The new locations are funny, especially the part about the San Juan airport. Having had to wait 5 hours for a flight there once, I can understand.

Had if for about a month. Got it the day it came out. WAY BEYOND WHAT I EXPECTED!
The booklet is well worth the price of the whole thing itself!!! I really like the pics, stories, articles, ect. in the booklet! The new songs are WONDERFUL!!! The remixes are awsome. Knees, In The Shelter really rock!!! The new versions of He Went To Paris and CATC are great. Volcano and SOASOAS are fablous!! And it is impossible not to dance during SAXAPHONES!!! The live versions are also GREAT. On top of that every song sounds better being remasterd and it is a wonderful collection! WAYYY BEYOND EXPECTATIONS!!

my understanding was MCA was gonna do this CD with or without jimmy since they own the publishing rights to old songs on the CDs (and the ancient cover photo)..... so better to have a say than no say at all.....
I'd feel bad for you, but I have no soul.....

I think the collection is great. There's not a whole lot I would've changed. I don't really agree with Bob Robert's Society Band being on there but thats alright. Would've replaced it with Boat Drinks, La Vie Dansante, or maybe The Weather is Here. The new Saxaphones is great, along with In The Shelter. A pleasant surprise for me was Migration. Everybody's Talkin is one of the best covers that Jimmy has done. Also, the new recordings are pretty good. Overall its a great release!

It seems to me that this cd is supposed for everyone, parrotheads and non parrotheads.
If it were me it would be striclty island anthems such as
"Cowboy in the jungle"
"Banana Republics"
"The weather is here"
"Cuban Crime"
"Island Fever"
"Who's the Blonde Stranger"
"Barometer Soup" you get the picture.
I think the live songs and remakes could have been left off and replaced with some of these making it a true "Meet me in Margaritaville " cd for everyone, the parrothead and non parrothead.
Can't please em all though.
Nevertheless......buy it!!!!!!!!!
