I think the CD will go platinum or mult-platinum. There is something on it for everyone. Enough SYKBH to please the casual fan and a few "must haves" for the Parrotheads. The fact that they changed the name to "Meet Me In Margaritaville" is a clue that they are going for a wide audience. They just had to get that "M" word in the title.

It will definitely go multi-platinum....It will just take time.....and it will replace SYKBH...because it has so much more to offer!!

It kind of depends on how long of a time frame you're talking about. SYKBH has gone platinum six times over, but that has been since it was released in 1985. It continues to sell fairly well.
MMIM, in the long run, will probably get a couple of platinum records. Just don't expect to see it at the top of the Billboard charts anytime soon.

Either you get it or you don't. I got mine yesterday.
I think it will open up a lot of new/marginal PHs to songs like Migration (YEAH!!), Last Mango, School Boy Heart, Take Another Road, Cowboy in the Jungle (YEAH!!), Creola (YEAH!!). Alot of folks aren't as devoted and/or phanatical as we here are, and don't yet own every track recorded by Bubba. This will give them a good, well-rounded set of music, with all the regular party songs and some stuff they might not have. I can see grabbing this when I might not want to carry all 22 CDs along on a trip. (,,,like, for instance, if I were going to Key West in 7 days, 20 hours and 14 minutes
)
I say platinum, but not this week....

not too bad
Although not an "Ultimate Collection" It is a well rounded group of songs although I did notice there arent no older gems that aren't already included on SYKBH. My guess is thiswill go gold. Does anyone know if a double cd counts as two or one? This might push it close to Platinum if it counts as two discs for each one bought.

I think it will hit the gold status. SYKBH is a single (cheaper) disc and has the classics that people who want a greatest hits cd of Buffett will buy. The two disc will be two discs and have a lot more songs the non Buffett fan won't recognize. I really think the majority of the people who buy it are going to be the fans that buy it for the few new songs. I bought it Tuesday morning and I overall enjoy the album a lot. I wish he would take it easy with the narrations at the beginning of songs though. It's cool the first time but if it's a song that you frequently listen to, it can get annoying. Before "Son of a Sailor" he says the exact same thing that is written in the booklet. If it's in the booklet why have it narrating the song? I dig Jimmy though.

I actually bought 5 before I had heard it. Although I have most of the songs several times over it is still Buffett, I'm giving two to my sons and the rest to a few good friends that I am trying to convert. It is a nice collection for anyone and a good listen for first timers.

I see your point on the whole 1 disc,2 disc thing, but even SYKBH is $15 at walmart and I boutght MMIM for $18.50 at walmart, but when SYKBH came out there was a few of his bigger hits that hadn't came out yet. With this,i beleive it has all of his major songs and some of his "lesser known" songs that appeals to us parrotheads.I beleive its a great cd and i'm really hopin for platinum,i've bought 2 copies so far,one for me and one for my dad and we both really enjoy it.One other thing, that is annoying when he narrarate's before SOASOAS.leebgb wrote:I think it will hit the gold status. I voted for gold. The following is strictly my opinion as I could be wrong as wrong could be. I have mixed emotions on this CD for the casual fan.
I'm not sure where this CD fit's in with casual fans who have already purchased SYKBH and maybe even T,TH,S. Disc 1 has so many repeat songs from the other two mentioned CD's and I don't know if the casual fans care about the reworked oldies on Disc 2.
Someone mentioned earlier that this could replace SYKBH. I agree that over time this CD has that potential. It's possible this is a CD that the casual fan who hasn't made any Buffett purchase may end up buying first when they want to have Buffett for their collection.

Gold
I vote Gold because there are too many free music sites, to get these songs, and alot of Bubba's new fans are young, and won't spend the $ on his CDs.
.....don't talk about tomorrow tonight. I love the now.......

I love Jimmy and I bought the CD (thru BN, and it came the day it was released in the stores). But I think it will go gold at the most (I voted for "not quite gold"). But I hope it goes multi multi platinum.
I think Jimmy is a great strategist. The title, the old, familiar songs are geared toward non PH's. And even though PH's always want new songs, almost every artist comes out with collections for the non-die-hard listeners. But he is smart enough to throw in some reworks, lives and new ones so that ParrotHeads, who usually want EVERYTHING the Sauce Boss does (I know I do), will have to buy it, too.
So while I think most PH's will buy it, I don't think the casual fan will if they already have SYKBH. If they don't have SYKBH then I think they will buy this rather than SYKBH, so maybe new listeners will buy it, but are they enough to make it go platinum, I don't know. "Far Side" hasn't gone gold yet, even though it was number one the day it came out (or something close to that).
But I like the album a lot, especially the reworking of "Saxaphones".
