My take on the new cd

Post by parrothead99 »

well, as a first timer here, and a long time Parrothead, I must voice my opinion. I love the new cd. However, I am once again dissappointed in the fact that my two favorite songs did not make the cut. I know I am in the minority with my favorites, but to me, they really sum up the mindset of a parrothead. Barometer Soup and Island Fever , to me, are the mindless, easy listening, steel drum, hammock laying anthems of being a parrothead. I missed the Barometer Soup tour so I have never heard that song done live. I do not think Jimmy holds it in high esteem either. Do not get me wrong, I love all his music, but there is something about those two songs that makes me smile and dream of the ocean and palm trees. Most people prefer his older material, or his very heartfelt stories, and I do also. But part of his allure to me is the being able to escape in my mind after a bad day, or dream of that vacation that is so far away. And to me, those songs are quirky, catchy and you do not have to think about the lyrics, just picture them. I am sure all of you other parrotheads will call me all kinds of names, not a true fan, or just a moron. But I assure you, I have every album, a bar in my house with a parrothead theme and he is all I listen to. I just wonder if there is anyone else who agrees with me that those songs mean more than anyone gives them credit for. Someday I hope he dusts them off and brings them out on tour. Exchange them for a couple cover tunes and maybe more people would agree with me.

I agree with you on Barometer Soup and Island Fever. Those are two of my favorites, too, and while we all couldn't get every song we wanted on this collection, I'm really happy with it, and I agree that BS and IF would make a great addition, because they really sum up what Jimmy's about. Really good points! :D

No way....you have a right to express your opinion here. :) I love those two songs as well. But it is hard to please all the PHs of the world--we all have our different views of what would make the "ultimate collection," so we all are going to have a few songs that we wish were included on MMIM that didn't make it. C'est la vie.

I agreee with all the input, we all have or favorites and almost to a person we can tell you what that song means to us. I saw Jimmy for the first time in 1974 and he is still producing a great produce. Thanks for another great CD. The Alanata show was fantastic and I really watching the band have fun. Let the party roll on!
May the wind always be to your back and your beer be cold. We all can't be Jimmy, but we can share his dream.

We can all certainly name songs that we wish had made the cut. But, the bottom line is Jimmy's still putting out great music and I, for one, am glad to hear it. I'll take a new CD of old stuff any day over no stuff at all!
Today is the tomorrow you spent yesterday worrying about. Was it worth it?

I think any Parrothead could make a CD of favorite 15 songs or so, and they'd all be different...If I was making my own setlist, it prob wouldn't have one song from Songs You Know By Heart On it...I love em, great songs, but I'd rather hear some other stuff from Buffett...But ya gotta keep in mind, for every Parrothead who wants to hear older and more obscure stuff, there are 20 who just want to hear Cheeseburger and Margaritaville......And there ain't nothin wrong with that
