I just got my Soundscan report and Meet Me In Margaritaville came in at # 9 for the week. It scanned 127,119 copies.

ok, i will ask. what is the soundscan report? something for radio people?

Soundscan is a report that is provided to the music industry. Billboard Magazine's parent company provides this information.

The report compiles the number of units sold (or UPCs scanned) on a particular product. It is recognized by the RIAA as determing gold, platinum and diamond CDs etc. You get a gold at 500,000 scans, platinum at 1,000,000 and diamond at 10,000,000. However since MMIM is a double CD, Jimmy will be eligible for a gold at 250,000 scans.

He's already sold 127,000 so he should be gold by the end of this month or the first few weeks of may,we need to get the word out.

He could be closer to Gold than we think. Scans don't come into play, when certifying Gold, Platinum etc. It's all about what has shipped from the distributor. Mariah Carey "Glitter" is certified Platinum, but we all know 1,000,000 people didn't buy it. The label I work for has many RIAA certified Gold albums that have yet to scan 500,000 copies. With first week scans of over 127,000, reorders should be high. If it didn't ship Gold, it should be there soon. Platinum plus seems reasonable after Christmas.
