Joe Merchant movie???

Post by CaribbnSoul »

Hey everyone....I was talking w/ my woman about the book and recalled Jimmy mentioning how he'd love to do a movie. It's obviously a great plot and there are some great actors out there for the roles. I was wondering if anyone has heard anything or who they think would be great for the roles. Maybe oneday we'll see it come to life...since the book did so well in sales....there is great potential for the big screen. Take care everyone...and as always, phinz up!!

I would love to see the movie! That is one of my favorite books, but it almost seems like a forgotten notion by the movie folks. Haven't heard talk about a possible movie in quite some time. Thanks for keeping it in our minds!

I'm not sure how current this news is. While it is true that MCA/Universal does own the rights to it, and the Frank Marshall part has been rumored for a long time. I've read the same info about a script and production schedule for many years running. I hope this is actually new news and we will get to see it. I think it could make an awesome movie. We've had many discussions on the board about what star would play whom.
Someone help me out and post the link for these folks.
And go get the book NOW! It's a great read.

Sadly a quick scan of the web shows that there's been no movement on the project in several years, if not longer. Even the most recent mentions of NO activity are two to three years old. By hollywood standards, it's dead in the water for now...

Yeah, this has been shevled for some time. It seems like when Jimmy was working on DSTC for the stage, this took the back burner, and unfortunaltey hasn't resurfaced yet. Last update I came across was about two years ago where some Hollywood company that issues some sort of (fictional?) stock on movies in developement, JM was one of them. Nothing has happened since. With new albums and the latest book in recent times, this is just simmering on the stove somewhere. Hopefully one day it wil happen. Lets not forget that he also tried to create a Margaritaville movie years back that never was realised. A JM movie would be great.

Hopefully it will become a movie. That would be cool, although I still need to read the book. From what I've heard it's excellent though. :D

I vaguely remember a thread going around about who would play the characters.

Jimmy has too much fun "researching" possible locations! Who can blame him for not wanting to give up that part of his job.
