Well, I guess this falls under my area since I am just beginning my internship as a marriage and family therapist.
My #1 recommendation would be that they try couples counseling before making any life-altering decisions. I have seen wonderful things happen from this, both from a personal perspective and a professional one.
I guess the only other thing I can suggest for you is that you support your child no matter what and try to talk to him/her about what has lead up to this decision. While marriage isn't for everyone, after 2 months you're really only just beginning to understand what it's all about. I would like to see them give it some more time. But again, if they are determined that they will split, there's not much you can do but be there for your child in any way possible. It's understandably hard to stand by and watch this happen, but your support will mean a lot.
Hang in there!

Let them live and learn.
I've always said that no words could ever really make
a person understand until they are actually in that
situation to deal with it. let the do what they want,
if is was a mistake they will realize it, if not then they will know!

We ask ourselves when we get in a fix,
what would Popeye do in a tight spot like this?
He'd race to his true love and easily win it, in a all spinach can with a mast stuck in it!

Tough....with no information to go on, it's hard to offer advice, but you asked so....
Personally I would be thankful they figured it out so early - the longer a bad marriage goes, the worse the split. Assuming there is nothing else than what meets the eye (illegal/immoral stuff), and no children involved or in process, as a parent I would count my lucky stars for my kid, give him/her all the encouragement, support, and common sense I could muster (and point out where the fault is if it's obvious, for learning puposes), and tehn carry on.
Or I could be wrong .....

Thanks guys, for your great thoughts. I finally looked at my mailbox. and got more. I am overwhelmed! You all are the greatest! I find it amazing that my head can be cleared and my heart lifted by the kind words and thoughts of strangers. Guess we are all in this together in some kind of strange way. Whatever it is, it works for me. I love you all!

I know exactly what your child is going through. I feel for you and your family. I have to agree that Jimmy has seen me through some hard times. My advice to to support what ever decision they make because it will be the right one. Sometimes in life, what seems like a bad decision at the time actually works out best in the long run.
