"OLD MAN EMU"

(this is an aussie song - Old Man Emu is a good name  )

By JOHN WILLIAMSON

Let me tell you of an interview with an Old Man Emu
He's got a beak and feathers and things
But the poor old fella ain't got no wings

Aren't you jealous of the wedge-tailed eagle - Um-ba-da-lip-ida-da-da
While the eagle's flyin' round and round
I keep my two feet firmly on the ground
Now I can't fly but I'm tellin' you
I can run the pants off a kangaroo
Ba-da-doo-doo, da-doo-doo-doo, doo-da-do-do, doo-doo
He can't fly but I'm tellin' you
He can run the pants off a kangaroo

Well he was the model to the fifty cents - Um-ba-da-lip-ida-da-da
The designer should have had more sense - Um-ba-da-lip-ida-da-da
If you take a look it'll prove to you (ha-ha-ha-ha)
I ran the pants off that kangaroo
Ba-da-doo-doo, da-doo-doo-doo, doo-da-do-do, doo-doo
Take a look it'll prove to you
I can run the pants off the kangaroo

You can't loop the loop like a cockatoo - Um-ba-da-lip-ida-da-da
Float and toss like an albatross - Um-ba-da-lip-ida-da-da
You silly gallah, I'm better by far
Than a white cockatoo or a budgerigar
They squeak and squawk and try to talk
Why me and them's like cheese and chalk
Ba-da-doo-doo, da-doo-doo-doo, doo-da-do-do, doo-doo
He can't fly but I'm tellin' you
He can run the pants off a kangaroo

Well the last time I saw Old Man Emu - Um-ba-da-lip-ida-da-da
He was chasing a female Emu - Um-ba-da-lip-ida-da-da

As he shot past I heard him say
Hoo-choo-hoo-choo-ah-hoo-choo-ah-hoo-choo
She can't fly but I'm tellin' you
She can run the pants off a kangaroo
Ba-da-doo-doo, da-doo-doo-doo, do-da-do-do, doo-doo
She can't fly but I'm tellin' you
She can run the pants off a kangaroo

Well there is a moral to this ditty - Um-ba-da-lip-ida-da-da
Thrush can sing but he ain't pretty - Um-ba-da-lip-ida-da-da
Duck can swim but he can't sing
Nor can the eagle on the wing
Emu can't fly but I'm tellin you
He can run the pants of a kangaroo

Well the Kookaburra laughed and he said it's true - Um-ba-da-lip-ida-da-da
Ha-ha-ha-hah, ha-ha-hoo
He can run the pants of a kangaroo
Ah-hoo-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha, ooh-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha

As I shudder in horror, I recall the time I was attacked by emus. Actually, I've had 2 unpleasant emu encounters...

1: It was May 1996, almost exactly this time, probably about May 24. I had just graduated from Rutgers and was at my first job. I was working as a corporate health screener and had been sent from NJ to Kentucky. I was hopelessly lost, thinking I was one more wrong turn from Deliverance, when a flock (are they flocks?) of emus came tearing out of a barn and started running along side me. That was kinda unsettling. HEre I was, Yankee Boy, in Kentucky, being chased by emus.

2: It was September 2000. My wife and I were in FLA with 2 friends. Taking a break from Disney, we went to Gatorland. While there, you could look at the emus and feed them from a little gumball-like dispenser. It gave you emu pellets or speed or I don't know what. I started trying to extract some pellets when I was attacked by like 4768 emus. They were sticking their heads through the fence and biting at me. Being the tough guy I am, I screamed like a 7-year old girl. I was hopping about and screeching. My travel companions were incompacitated with laughter, as was the emu wrangler. I was getting mauled and was attracting a crowd. My wife finally freed me and went to fetch the pellets. The emus were nice to her. Then, I went back for more and got mauled again. I still shudder when confroned with a picture of an emu.

And, as if that wasn't enough, while in Curacao a pellican once attacked me when I was taking its picture.

Last week 4 geese chased me in my office parking lot.

Birds hate me.
Wrinkles only go where the smiles have been.

Do me a favor: Next time you want to wail about an avtar, PM the person who has so deeply offended you. Or just kiss my avtar.

1: It's not funny. Ok it is, but it falls under the heading "It's funny because it's not me" For me...not funny. For you all...very funny.

2: I went back for more because the emus appeared to have calmed down and because I had to look strong and macho for my wife and friends. I couldn't let them think that the emus had won.

To get back on topic, I'd call the emu *%^@%$#&ing Emu.
