Montego Bay bound
I've booked my first cruise. I have decided I must go have a cheesebuger in paradise. Anyone been there, done that?
been there(I assume we're talking about m'ville)...i was on a cruise ship as well...a bunch of us went and it was fun, like a $4 cab ride from the pier...there is a 3 story waterslide, water trampolines and alot of outside deck seating for food and drink...there is no beach there, but it is w/in walking distance of the beach...I was there on Chirstmas day 2002 and it was fun that day so I assume it would be fun anytime...

Got married last fall in Jamaica... the Margaritaville in Montego Bay is located in the airport?! Happening place but just like a regular restaurant/bar for the most part ... Now, the M'ville in Ocho Rios (about an hour or so north) is the real deal! On the beach with waterslide, outdoor/indoor pool & party area, big screens blasting Jimmy and a DJ with dance floor and a bunch of nuts running around throwing tequila down yer hatch!! The cruise ships dock right by there and water taxi's bring everybody in .... it was noon on a tuesday and that place was going berserk!!!! HAVE PHUN!!!!

had a VERY bad experience overall at Margaritaville in Montego Bay earlier this year. I went there on a cruise and after taking a tour, ended up having only 10 minutes or so to spend at M-ville. The store conveniently had no prices posted for any of the items they sold. You had to ask how much each item was. I felt as if the store clerk saw I was a cruise passenger and charged me sky high prices as a result.
The DJ there was playing Prince and Garth Brooks, I heard only one Buffett song the whole time I was there...Then I ordered a Strawberry Mango Margarita (That's the one really cool thing, they have like 50 flavors of margaritas to choose from there) in a tall pilsner. At every other Margaritaville I have been to, the price includes the glass...Not at M-ville Mo Bay! I paid $23 for that one margarita!!
The place does look really neat with the water slide and floating trampolines and I really wish I could have had more time to spend there. I wouldn't make a special trip back just to go to M-ville, but I'd check out M-ville Ocho Rios and Air M-ville if I ever do go back to Jamaica.
I hope that your trip is better than mine!! I'm sure it will be as long as you have more time there to spend. Please look for a Bluegrass Parrot Head Club t-shirt signed by the BGPHC members while you're there and let me know when you get back if it was up in the bar anywhere. I asked the manager to hang it up in the bar and he said he would, but my guess is that he never did! I'm pretty sure he took it home with him...

You can get a free small margarita with the coupon.

KYflamingo, sounds like you go screwed out of your glass...it should have been included...I got a beer in a keeper glass and walked out without a problem, I ordered it from the menu and it said on it that it was included....I don't remember enough about the prices in the gift shop, but I know what I bought was right in (or out of) line with what I've paid at other margaritavilles...the atmosphere while I was there was great and maybe it was because it was christmas day...we used the link that you included and they honored one per person in our group of 12...pretty nice I thought...

I just got back from MoBay a week ago. My husband and I went to Margaritaville 2x - well worth the $50 roundtrip from our hotel. The slide was a real thrill and the trampolines were fun. The food was what you'd expect for the price - the burgers were pretty darn good. The margaritas needed serious help, though, so we drank Red Stripes. I was disappointed they didn't play more Jimmy but pretty much every 3rd song was JB. The rest was reggae. Also the waitstaff was friendly and have met Jimmy and are happy to share their stories
Have fun! I'm jealous that you're going soon!

Since there are several pholks who've been to Jamaica here, can you tell me if I'll be able to get regular ole American beer while I'm down there? I'm not a big fan of anything other than light beers, and I'm afraid I'll be stuck drinking Red Stripe for 8 days.
Today is the tomorrow you spent yesterday worrying about. Was it worth it?

If you're looking for a nice restaurant for dinner, try Margarite's (sp) in downtown MoBay... very nice. Right next to Margaritaville.. Taxi's are expensive, so try and arrange a shuttle from the hotel.. The ride is free IF you eat at the restaurant, but there's a 2 hour time limit.
There's a very cool place called Glistening Waters. It's a night cruise on the luminous lagoon with Phosphorescente fish and streaks of light as they swim around.
Take a day trip to Ocho Rios.. try arrange a tour bus with your hotel.. see Dunns River Falls.. and the Margaritaville there. Lots of great shopping.

I stayed in Negril about 4 years ago. We were just down the beach from Margaritaville about a 1/4 of a mile. We ate there everyday. The food was fantastic and reasonable. The drinks were great also.
When we were there the first night, they had a guy on stage singing Jimmy Buffett and taking Buffett requests. He was quite good!
Try it out and have a good time!
