Wedding...Band or DJ?
Those who know me know im certainly NOT talking about my wedding but am helping a friend who is a rather large parrothead and getting married....long story short, get a band or DJ, money's not a huge issue and she wants someone who'll at least do m'ville and come monday and volcano if they get a band, obviously those would be no problem with a DJ....so i pose the question to all Band or DJ?
Grandfather always told me if i went down i might never come back again.

I'll have to agree with the expert here!!!Key Lime Lee wrote:As a musician... go with a deejay.
Most wedding bands that would play Buffett will s***. It will be like Buffett on ludes.
The deejay will play the records and your friend will be happier.
Greg, are you sure it's not your wedding

I was going to say DJ at first too but being the pimpette that I am.......your "friend" might want to consider some of the great Buffett cover bands..... you'd be surprised how reasonable they are and if he/she was budgeting for a band anyway and want buffettesque type music I'd say check them out!!!

I think I would have to say band!
only if you know their sound!
A DJ is too, i dunno easy!
Sounds weird, but a band adds character to your wedding,
plus I feel it is a little more traditional. And if the band messes
up it makes it that much more memorable. If your DJ messes up
people don't really remember that to much. And its not as funnY!

We ask ourselves when we get in a fix,
what would Popeye do in a tight spot like this?
He'd race to his true love and easily win it, in a all spinach can with a mast stuck in it!

I agree with PHAW and Junior Mint. If money is not the issue, I think a band is classier. And you can find good cover bands. If you need recommendations, I sure PHAW and others here can help you. And your local Parrothead Club, too.
But whether it's a band or dj, listen to them real good. And make sure it's in the contract that the ones you are listening to are the ones you'll get. I remember at a high school reunion the dj had not the faintest idea what songs were from our years, and when we told him he only had a few of those songs with him. All he had were current songs. He couldn't understand why no one was dancing. When he would finally play one of our songs, everybody was on the floor. So ask for a list and make sure they know of any special songs needed well in advance.

the wedding is in Orlando, i think they are leaning towards a band and i tend to agree with them, the husband isnt soo much a parrothead so they wouldnt want an actualy JB cover band i dont think (i would, but again were not talking about me
)

The best reception that I ever went to had Kareokke!! That way you can get everyone involved, its awesome to hear what the old-timers choose to sing and to hear the little kids sing is cool too! Plus you can always take a break and play some dance tunes where the girls can do their thing.
Being a musician, I would love to play a few slow tempo songs at someones wedding, but my band and I may not know every song they request. Plus, if you hire a wedding band you may end up with a freakshow like Adam Sandler singing Boy George all night
