Went to the PK show and Indy show. Both where unique in there own way. Of course when it comes to Tailgateing PK rocked DPHC & POTGL! In Indy was Allen Jackson that was a bonus.
Being a fellow metal head from the 80's think Jimmy would do EVERYBODY WANTS SOME by Van Halen in the tempo of WDWGDAS? Just kidding....would be interesting...LOL

Old age and memory as I have forgotten who said this but it applies
"argueing with your fans over what songs you want to sing is not the best of ideas" or something along those lines. The reality is he is playing to his general audience although there maybe a few who wish he alter his list. I for one could careless what he sings, it is an all day event that several thousand enjoy who rarely even sit down. That is magic no matter how you slice it.

The way I look at it is this:
By my count, last night at Alpine he did 31 songs. 11 of them were the songs he "has to play every year". That leaves 20 more for variety and for the hard-core fans. I think that does a nice job of catering to everyone.
(The 11 I count are: Fins, Margaritaville, OPH, Volcano, Southern Cross, Why Don't We Get Drunk, APLAF, SOASOAS, Cheeseburger, Come Monday, and Latitudes)

Spooner,
Let me say that your name is great (Spooner is a wonderful little town in northwestern Wisconsin). Your take on the whole situation is right-on. I have been going to Jimmy's concerts since 1981 and I have heard the SYKBH selections heaven knows how many times. I look forward to those gems that pop-up each year that are not on the "required" list. I go for them all and my only complaint is not about the song selection, it is about the "mouthy" wannabee "fans" who just can't seem to keep their yappers shut and just enjoy listening or singing along. There are too many people out there who should be sitting home listening to a CD, carrying on pontificating about themselves and their latest boring accomplishments where they won't bother those of us who care about Jimmy's bantering and his songs.
We have come too close to having JB retire in recent years so every concert, regardless of the setlist, should be treasured. We should collectively thank JB for his dedication to doing this over and over, year after year, for our enjoyment (and his financial well-being). He certainly can quit anytime that he wants. God knows he has heard all of the songs many more times than any of us have. All of us need to enjoy this wonderful experience while we can. None of us will get out of this alive but we might as well have a good time while we race towards that certain end. See you at Tinley Park in August.

I find it amazing that there are some people out there that find it necessary to complain about everything. This thread was started by someone saying they were "fed up" and "digusted" with Jimmy's set list. I think someone needs to get a life.
As many other people said here, we should just be happy that Jimmy still comes around each and every year. I know my summer would not complete without seeing Jimmy in concert, and really don't care what songs he plays.

I've seen Buffett 22 times since 1997 and I'm not gonna complain about the set list...I love seeing him play, I love the atmosphere, and I love the fact that a Buffett concert is an all-day (sometimes more than that) event. Sure I could do w/out the SYKBH, but I'd rather have a whole show of those than no show at all.
We all know that our days of live Buffett shows are numbered, so I just want to enjoy every minute of every one we have left. I do 6 shows a year these days b/c I know that soon I'll be sitting at home on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays during the summer. Even if it was the exact same set list every time, I'd still go!!

Some people do take his shows for granted...While I've certainly said before 'i wish he'd play more old stuff' i love every second of the shows...He isn't coming to Raleigh this summer, again, and it makes you wish he was! I'm going to Merriweather and nissan to see him though...
Point is, if you didn't really love Buffett then you wouldn't get mad cause he doesn't play what you want to hear...And you'll regret stopping going to shows an incredible amount the day he actually does stop touring...

I agree with you totally.... But again I agree with you "won't stop me from going though"RAGTOP wrote:the only changes I would like to see is replace the 4 or 5 cover songs he does at every show with his own stuff. I don't want to go to a JB concert and hear Crosby, Stills and Nash.
won't stop me from going though
I think in one way or another we are all saying the same thing..
We can all wish for the perfect set list.. But guess what??? It doesn't exist.... We all need to be thankful that Jimmy even tours anymore..
Remeber bubba's not going to tour forever.. So lets just take what he gives us and be thankful at that... I totally love seeing Jimmy every year...
And I don't know what will happen when he really does retires...
All his songs are great... Even the not so popular remakes... Remember at least it's Jimmy singing..
Be good & you will be lonesome...............

I do agree that Jimmy is one of the greatest artists around.....but, i think going to a buffett concert is about the experience not just the music. Of course there are songs I'd love to hear him play (and I know he never will)....but, that is what the cd is for. Don't get me wrong, I understand what you mean but you must remember there are just as many buffett virgins at concerts as there are true parrot heads (Jimmy can't please everyone)......The one thing that does frustrate me though is that everytime I hope he plays a song, he ends up playing it at the next concert and not the one I'm at...lol

Bottom line...ya dont like the show...dont go. Better you go to a JJW show and listen to him explain how he p*** in the wind and came up with a song? The man has beaten every odd there is out there! He is succesful without airplay, without selling out stadiums and has gotten into the bussiness of resturants with huge company's. put this to bed already...this thread should have ended 3 pages ago. Jimmy is who Jimmy is...A Singer who knows how to market himself.

The setlist does need to be adjusted in a major way.Specifically cutting back on the sykbh and southern cross and beg. But, this years covers in my opinon really add to the show and i do enjoy hearing them. I do think that this years tour is one of the better ones he's done.last year i was very disappointed with the entire tour in my opinon the setlist had no flow to it.heres what i really want to know, does he like the majority of the material he has done and if so why not play it? Perfect example, why is it he only plays the same select songs from each of his albums.Example:Barometer Soup, he only plays from that album either Mexico or Barefoot Children.4 years ago he opened with Lage Nom Ai(spelling ?) and it was amazing.Example 2:Last Mango in Paris, he either plays the title track, Jolly Mon or Gypsies in the Palace. This is true of nearly ever album he has released. He takes 2-3 songs from each album and its almost as if those are the only songs he will play from that album.Yes there are rare occurences that something does change but for the most part that is what he does. Bottom line: Keep Touring and next year let the fans vote on the setlist.

Hey kidz, don't show up much anymore but wanted to weigh in on this most controversial topic. I've seen way too many shows, close to double my age in the last ten years. That being said, I went to my first show in Indy in 1993, because I stumbled upon a Feeding Frenzy CD. Being a Buffett virgin and not knowing he has a million other records it was great to hear the regulars as I thought that was all that existed and it made for a great show because I could sing along with the crowd for at least a few songs. So now he's got me in the door, and he throws in the SYKBH songs and everyone is still singing along and dancing and having a blast, so now I'm hooked. I have to own every CD by tomorrow and have every song memorized so I could have as much fun. The thing is, when he plays the classics we love so much, 70% of the crowd adjourns to the head and us regulars are left singing by ourselves, which is great, but the atmosphere goes away a little bit. He knows this, so he tries his best to keep the phun rolling all night. When he plays a few regulars the less experienced concert goers don't know, they want to find out more and this leads to more CD's being sold. I took some first timers this year and they loved hearing the classics but got bored during the oldies. So Jim is just trying to keep everybody happy and he does a tremendous job. He is touring alot longer than most musicians so I consider myself lucky to still be seeing him as I am a young head. It's like some other poster's mentioned. I go to phlock with people like me three hours before the show and have a complete blast and just enjoy the surroundings. He could play Fins 30 times in a row and I would be happy. I think he mixes it up perfectly. BTW, thanks for finally playing Changing Channels at Indy this year Jim, made the perfect ending to a perfect night. Sorry for rambling. Good night now.
