I don't know if I like this. I'll probably go see the plane the next time I'm there, but this officially puts to an end the dream I've had since reading Pirate Looks at 50.

See, Jimmy and I were going to become friends and one day he was going to call and say "Hey...I'm in the area and wanted to know if you, the wife, and the baby wanted to come along for a month or so as we island hop around the Caribbean. I finally got clearance to land on the Amazon, so I hope you don't mind if we swing back to Manaus and see Conrad and the gang. So, I'll be on the Delaware River at 2:00. See you then."

This really was going to happen, you know.
It was.
I mean it.
I'm not kidding.
Stop laughing at me.

Believe me I'm not laughing...Every time I've been to the caribbean, and Bubba's not on tour then, I kind of keep an eye out...Dumb I know, but it happens all the time

Does anyone know why he decided to retire the Hemisphere Dancer? I know he has a few other planes but the Albatross I would think would still be a very decent plane...? Maybe he has another one in mind to add to his flying fleet.

About halfway through "Pirate Looks at Fifty" where he and the family are in Costa Rica. We spent some time there about two years before he landed and I was vividly reminded of Quepos, Manual Antonio etc........

But to see HD on display feels abit odd, shame she is not doing what she was built for.

That's kinda how I feel. He wrote about this love for the plane and what it could do and what it had been designed to do...and look at it now. I'm getting sad again.

Maybe, if nothing else, I can sit in the left seat and make engine noises with my mouth. pbtttbtptbbbtpptpbbptp

On a side note... I just read PLA50 again...the 2nd time this year, and am just absolutely in love with that book. I'm turning 30 next year, and I think we're going to wrap a trip to St John around it. I've asked my wife, either for this birthday or Christmas, for a journal. I want to try to get down on paper somewhere what I feel like going into the trip (and birthday) and what I do while there. I'm going to publish it under the title "A Madman Looks at 30"

Well next year I'll turn 30 also. I'll be the first in line to buy your book.

The albatross in a 1950's era seaplane, so parts are hard to find. The albatross had Wright Cyclone 9 piston radials, which are powerfull but are very fuel hungry. ( you say "filler-up", and I say "that will be 1100$, cash or credit?") Sadly alot of old, and wonderful airframes are tossed aside for want of a rich, rich owner who will love them and care for them.

I hate to see the Dancer not able to soar, but I'm moving to Orlando in a couple of months. So I can live with its final resting place. Specially since I've never seen it up close, just hovering over Mars Music in Palm Beach. I like it.

I'm kinda like Duff.......glad I will finally get to see her, although I've never had the chance to see her---ever.

But, she needs to be in the sky where she belongs.........

It is really sad.

the right side is the side that got shot up, but there are no visible patches because my guys do really, really, good work and they patched the holes.
