I think its in a much better location than Casa Marina, just due to the fact that its right on Duval and within easy walking distance of all the bars. Most of the time we would take a $5 cab ride to Casa during the day and then hang out on Duval at night. Last year, Pier House gave Parrotheads a great discount, but apparently, they are not doing any discounted rates for this years MOTM. I guess b/c they dont think that many Parrotheads want to stay there. But if more people are thinking of staying there, maybe we can try to get a discounted rate. I'd definitely recommend it over Casa.
I worked at the Pier House while living in Key West in '87.
Not too fancy a digs, but for the 'wealthy', had a certain opulence about it, unlike most of the bars along Duval St.
What's her name, Moragan Fairchild, lunched while I was there! :o
Casa Marina, was only just going up!
I am very surprised the Pier House isn't hooking the Parrotheads up!!
I mean, THE CHART ROOM is the bar located directly above the Pier House, in which our most cherished JB met his most beloved Lady Jane!
Correct?!
Go figure!
That alone should be enough reason to hook us up!
Doesn't everyone go there for that reason?!!
Cause we're Parrotheads and mean something, esp. to their economy!!
OK, who barfed all over the Pier House and now don't want us back?!!
"Fun is about as good a habit as there is"-JB!

Just a Spongecake for Parrotthead Adventure!

May the ^Finz^ be with you!!

Last week I did some calling around for a place to stay for MOTM (my favorite place was already full). I found that instead of discounting for the Parrotheads, some places are starting to treat MOTM as they do Fantasy Fest and are jacking up the prices for that weekend. They got a 'Thanks, but no thanks' from me.

I ended up with the last room available at the Washington Street Inn a couple blocks from the Casa and am content with the price.

Do you happen to know off hand which hotels still had availability w/a discount for MOTM? We may just look into renting a little cottage again like we did 2 years ago...we got a great deal on a place on Caroline St. That sucks that most places are raising the prices for MOTM like they do with Fantasy Fest!!

As of last week:

The Casa Key West (next door to Washington St. Inn) had one room left ($119 poolside with two beds). Avalon B&B (at the end of Duval near Southernmost) had at least two rooms ($99/queen, $129 2-queen beds). I don't think either were offering specific Parrothead discounts, however, their normal off-season rates are attractive and include breakfast. If I hadn't gotten the Washington Street room, they would have been next on my list.

I didn't look at any of the bigger resorts because those just aren't the type places I prefer.

I have stayed at this place on Eaton called West Winds for the last 4 years. It is 4 blocks from Duval and 2 blocks from the Conch Republic. The rooms start at $80 to $130. They do add $20 to the rate for it being a special event in town. It is a really nice place and the walk from Duval or should I say crawl is not bad. There is a neat little cuban sandwich shop on the corner and you get a lot for your money.

check it out http://www.westwindskeywest.com

This year we contacted one of those finders and got a great deal on a house located on Simonton. We got a 4 bedroom house with 8 staying there and it only costing us $35.00 a night per person for a week.

Hey Tequila Sheila...when are you going down? We will be there on the 27th and leave on the 3rd...I am talking to the bar we hang out at during the Street Party to reserve our area again.

Missed you at the RAGTOP RUN this weekend.

Check out the hotels on the PHiP MOTM site and that will tell you who will have parrot head discounts. You may want to look in to the Ocean Breeze. It's just down the street from the Casa and may have rooms available.

You can also go on to keywest.com and then check into places from there. There are a bunch of different rental property places that have B&B's, condos, apartments, houses, etc to rent. Have had good luck with them in the past.

Another thing.......if you are brave enough, there seems to be a few people who back out at the last minute and put up postings on the MOTM message board as it gets a little closer. Also people looking for room shares, sometimes in a hotel or someone has a room for a couple in a house they rented. Check it out.

Speaking of MOTM message board, some of you should go over there and pay a visit once in awhile. It seems always the same people posting (including myself) and it's always nice to get some new folks on board. Makes things more interesting, especially when those little cliques get ticked at one another! :o

I am going as well! This will be my first trip down for the MotM! I have been looking forward to getting down there for some time now. It has been very difficult to get away during October because of my job. I have finally been able to swing the trip. Yeahhhh!!!! I look forward to doing the Duval Crawl, and meeting some of the nicest peoples on earth. I think our club has around 20 or so people making the trip. I think I am the only MotM virgin though. I hope that there will be some sort of hazing<VBG>.

No me and Poohbear will be "unofficial" virgins. We will be there on the outside looking in. We are not members to a PHC,sucks to be poor. But atleast we will get to see some of the goings on. And hopefully get to meet all for the other BN's. We need a shirt/tag/button something to say "Hey I am a BNer" :D
