Grumman Albatross action in dumb movie
I was watching a dumb movie about the sinking of the USS Indianapolis called Mission of the Shark. The story of the Indianapolis has always interested me since Quint talked about it in JAWS. Anyways a Grumman Albatross crew locates the sailors in the water. I don't know if it is historically accurate that a Grumman Albatross was the type of plane that discovered the surviving sailors but there are some good shots of the plane flying and an open sea landing. There are also some interior shots. I am not recommending anyone buy or rent this movie to see it but if you see it on cable it might be worth your time to check it out if you have nothing better to do.

couldn't be an albatross. the navy prototype first flew in 1946, with initial deliveries to the military in 1953. are you sure it wasn't a PBY Catalina? a catalina was the aircraft in real life....

G-73T
The plane that spotted the crew of the Indianapolis was a Consolidated PBY. Off the cuff I can't recall the series, but a little research will uncover that.
The aircraft you saw in Bad Boys II was from my company, Chalks Ocean Airways - N130FB. It is a G-73T Mallard. They requested a seaplane for the opening sequence. We do still have G-111's, but not flying them at this time. It was filmed at the Watson Island Seaplane Base where my office is. (yes, the one you've probably read about). I'm just glad we went through the expense of bringing in a plane and not ending up on the cutting room floor!

My dad was in WWII in the South Pacific. He was in the U.S. Army Air Corps (before it was changed to the Air Force) on a rescue sea plane that looked a lot like the albatross, except that the engines were located under the wings. Does anyone know what plane that was? I'd ask my dad, but he passed on years ago, and grumman sounds familiar. I'd appreciate any response.
