A chance to meet Mr. Jimmy Buffett

Post by SouthernSeas »

You know, I can feel the time coming when I just sit back and drink and talk with my idol, Jimmy Buffett. Does anyone here have any suggestions on how I can go about meeting Jimmy Buffett? I really need to meet him someday (I suppose ya'll feel the same way). Being face to face with Buffett, to me, is the same as being face to face with god. It seems a mere impossibility. He is such an inspiration to me that I just have to meet him. How can I go about doing this???
Sunset Beach is my Margaritaville. Where there is endless beach, no time, and sunshine that seems to last forever. I know that Someday I Will.....Someday.

I don't have any suggestions on how to make your wish come true, but if it ever happens, let me know and I'll join you! Good luck to you, though.
Today is the tomorrow you spent yesterday worrying about. Was it worth it?

I was fortunate to sit 2nd row dead center at the concert in Dallas back in April. It was like nothing else.. seeing the man about 15 feet in front of me. I swear he made eye contact with me a couple times but that may just be wishful thinking :D . I hope to meet him one day also, maybe at an airport or seaplane base where we can talk seaplanes :D

i suppose you could just ask?? you never know. i wrote to him (his home florida address) and he actually wrote back. he also sent a personalized autographed pic, which i never asked for. i still have the letter framed. writing directly to him might be a step in the right direction...

To meet Jimmy???

Post by Mango Picker »

At my first concert, in 99, Houston, at Compaq Center, we had seats just to stage right about 10 rows fm the side of the stage, so we could see them come on stage, get ready etc. As Jimmy was strapping on his guitar, I stood up and held up the sign I snuck in. It read, Jimmy 3:16, a parody on the John 3:16 bible reference you see hanging out at lots of sports events.... (God gave us the son of a son of a sailor...)

Jimmy saw it, squinted to read it, and nodded and gave me a one handed Fins! I still get pumped thinkin bout it.

Later in the concert he came around to our side, and when I held the sign up again, we exchanged bows. Outta sight!

I have passed him a couple of books. I know he read one of them... Maybe someday he will write a song about it, but I ain't telling bout what ... haha...

I grew up in S Miami, pre-Buffett, in cut offs, flip flops and lots of on-the-water time... He sorta takes me back to those times. We had friends who flew real Pan Am China Clippers, I used to pick mangos for a summer time job for one of those pilots my dad flew with... I learned to sail in Coconut Grove, not far from that Grove drugstore.... and used to take my dates to the Flick coffeehouse where he performed early on...then we'd go parking by the Dinner Key Marina and the old Pan Am seaplane base. But I left Miami just as he was coming in...

And he sure sends me to Margaritaville every time I read his books, hear his music, or use my new -oh-phishul Margaritaville PC mouse. Just sittin here at work, with my "margarita" in my hand.... Then again, some of his stuff just grabs your soul too... He is so diverse!!

Everyone dreams of meeting Jimmy... It'd take him a long time to meet us all... haaahaaa..

So, I sure would love to meet the man ... Someday I will.... someday....

I use to think the best chance to get to shake his hand would be right at the end of the show if you had great seats. But, recently I heard Steve Hunnington on Radio Margaritaville mention that after the final encore, it is absolute chaos trying to get everybody loaded into the vans and out of there. I have a hard time imagining that since the final encore is always such a slow, laid back song. Jimmy really has to shift gears quickly!

I will allow you to use my avatar pic and airbrush me out and paste yourself in there!

Or you could show up for the next Today Show taping 12 hours early and hope that he is gracious enough to stop by and say hello again! Good luck in your quest! It really is life altering! Just don't get arrested for being one of those stalker guys! :pirate:

In the letter Jimmy wrote back, he said he was surprised b/c he doesn't get too much phan mail at his home address, he said it's usually reserved for "amex and diner's club". With that in mind, I got the sense that he didn't really want that information shared, so I have to respect his privacy. However, if you absolutely can't live without writing directly to him, it takes a bit of sleuthing, but again, you can find everything on the internet. :)

It was definately a good time! Aside from meeting THE MAN and seeing THE MAN, it was just great to hang out with other PHs that are crazy enough to sit on the streets of NYC for 12 hours wearing grass skirts, coconut bras etc.... You should see the looks we got from the city folk that had no idea who JB was? It was priceless!!
Figuring out how to start drinking at 6 pm and still be doing it at 6 am, then stop drinking and have to stay awake for 3 more hours is a bit tricky but it can be done!

Taken from the Orlando Sentinal the day after: Jimmy Buffett said "I had a really great time at the campaign rally! Except there was this crazy guy with his hat on backwards that kept following me around and peering over my shoulder while grinning at someone with a camera. Luckily, my henchmen took him aside and beat him within an inch of his life later."
