5 O'Clock in Margarittaville, but not Somewhere
I hadn't heard the Jackson / Buffett song until I saw it on CMT and it's a very catchy tune.
"It's only 1/2 past twelve, but I don't care. It's 5 o'clock somewhere..."
Jimmy corrects him in the song. It's always 5 o'clock in Margaritaville.
But after the song was stuck in my head for a while I realized that if it IS half-past where you are, it's unlikely that it will be 5 straight up somewhere else. With the exception of some small 1/2 hour-off time zones in Asia, Pasific, and Alaska, all the zones are 1 hour apart.
It would be kind of fun to figure out where in the world Jackson could be "working" in order to have it be 5 O'clock somewhere!

Re: 5 O'Clock in Margarittaville, but not Somewhere
As was discussed in the other five o clock thread, the implied meaning is that it's AT LEAST five o'clock somewhere, meaning it must be after work somewhere and time to drink.Pairoughthed wrote:

If you take it literally, that would imply that you're only allowed to drink while it's five o'clock but before 5:01 because then it wouldn't be 5:00 anymore. And that would be silly.

"It's 5:00 somewhere" is as much a state of mind as Margaritaville. That state of mind is temporal, as well as geographic. If you're a parrothead, no matter where you are or WHEN it is, you can drink w/o guilt!Key Lime Lee wrote:Pairoughthed wrote:
