Wow! This is the first I've heard of this. Thank you for the "up close and personal" description. KLL has a point: maybe it was an over-enthusistic phan throwing beads in an attempt to emulate Mardi Gras?
That doesn't make it right, to be certain. I just HATE to think that anyone would throw something at OUR Jimmy with malicious intent.
I remember the Charlotte incident too...I hope for Chi-Town's sake he doesn't punish them the way he did Charlotte....by not performing there.
And yes, Gumby, it can happen.
Very ineteresting...I wonder if there will be an ophicial press release about it?
Your pal, Auntie

Merriweather concert
Even thought the website stated that we could bring in one bottle of water, they were confiscated a the gate. If something was thrown, I didn't see it. But then again, I was against the fence at the back of the lawn. Hope that helps.bbarba3 wrote:Evidently something similar (the throwing thing) happened at Merriweather. When we went to go into Nissan we brought a bottle of water per person (it was about 95 degrees) as per Nissan rules. We were told we couldn't bring them in and no bottles were allowed throughout the concert. They said Jimmy banned them for the rest of the tour, somebody was throwing them onstage during the Merriweather concert.

Hmmm...interesting.ParrotDroppings wrote: So everyone knows for sure, Jimmy wants you to throw beach balls on stage, it's part of the show. During the breaks, they cleared all the beach balls out of the pit in front and gave them back to the crowd.
At Camden, we were in the 6th row (help me out Kit, was it the 6th or the 3rd or maybe the 5th?
Do our Camden beachballs have cooties?

Must have been Camden! There were 6 Tweeter guards across the front wall, and they had no problem with the beach balls being hit on stage. Jimmy seemed to have fun with them also, he commented at Mac's fan club of 5 beach balls in front of him. He also had a blast kicking some into the crowd, he even signed 1 ball for a lucky phan.
Some guards were hitting the balls back to the phans as others were letting them fall behind the wall. At intermission the guards threw back 30+ beach balls to the phans which had gotten stuck beyond the black wall. And several of those made it back on stage. As phans swatted the beach balls back on stage the guards had no problems. The only problem was when Mac got hit in the head while playing It's My Job duet with Jimmy, and the phan only got a warning. He was 2 rows directly behind me, so I overheard Jimmy's body guard warn him. Seems like this was part of the show/atmosphere!

Stuff such as this has always happened, most of us are lucky enough to not have it affect us direclty but sometimes it does. Jimmy played at Red Rocks Ampitheater, )which is proly one of the best places to see anybody) in 1990 , something happen in the front two rows that really got to him, not sure what happened, but he has never played red rocks again. Partly because he makes more cash at Fiddlers Green and because it is easier for him. But at Fiddlers I have had hats stolen off of my head, drunk people falling all around out of control, I have seen fights break out etc. It's all part of it and Jimmy has put up with it for years. But it is a lifestyle that he has encouraged and in fact he has been known to get way to drunk and cause trouble himself. Ya never know who is going to buy a ticket or what they will do, It can happen in Cincinatti, Chicago, Denver, anywhere.

you know, the problem with playing a concert in Chicago is you have to deal with people from Chicago.

I noticed when the throwing incident happend and he didn't seem too happy...but I really can't agree with anybody that said Jimmy was off or not having a good time and it should just be chalked up as a bad show. It was my first show and I had the time of my life. The musicianship was tremendous and the show was great.

From the local paper... sounds like JB was having a great time.
Buffett-style beach party at Tweeter

With Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band in town Thursday night, the stifling heat and suffocating humidity almost seemed appropriate.
Throw in some beers and margaritas (if you had the $15 for the latter), and it was a classic Buffett beach party at the Tweeter Center in Tinley Park.
"I remember playing here when it was 30 degrees," Buffett said at one point. "I have no problem with the heat."
Buffett's loyal legion of fans, known as Parrotheads, were out in full force, ranging in age from preteen to discount-on-coffee-at-McDonald's. As expected, most were dressed in outlandish, garish garb. Add in the weather, and you had more hot, sweaty people in ugly clothes than at a central Illinois Wal-Mart.
As always, Buffett's set list included a healthy diet of his greatest hits, including "Son of a Son of a Sailor," "Cheeseburger in Paradise," "Margaritaville," "Come Monday," "One Particular Harbor," "Why Don't We Get Drunk," "Changes in Latitude, Changes in Attitude" and "Volcano."
But he also played a number of tunes a little foreign to most "casual" Buffett fans — a phrase that's redundant and oxymoronic at the same time. From the opening "Great Heart" to the closing "Lovely Cruise," the set list went beyond the 13 songs on Buffett's ubiquitous greatest hits album, 1985's "Songs You Know By Heart."
Buffett also continued his long tradition of co-opting other artists' songs as his own, especially those songs somehow related to warm weather, booze and, well, warm weather and booze.
Thursday's concert — and tonight's encore show — are part of the "Tiki Time" tour, a reference to John Hiatt's "The Tiki Bar is Open," which Buffett used to open his second set. Then there were standard Buffett covers of Stephen Stills' "Southern Cross" and James Taylor's "Mexico," plus a performance of "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere," Buffett's current chart-topping country duet with Alan Jackson.
Looking youthful as ever, Buffett hardly stood still during the two-hour-plus show, prancing around barefoot as always in a bright yellow T-shirt and tie-dyed shorts. Breaks between songs were filled with enjoyable banter with the crowd and his nearly 20 bandmates and dancers ("What's with that thing with the time in Indiana? I never got that").
The dancers at several points took the stage in Island garb, gyrating alongside the giant Easter Island-esque face statues (that belched smoke at the right moment), fire-twirlers and faux tiki torches that in another world might fit right in at "The Tiki Room" at a certain theme park.
"You will not see this (stuff) at Disney World," Buffett said with a laugh.
All in all, Buffett conjured up a jubilant, who-cares-about-work-in-the-morning mood among the packed house at the Tweeter Center. The euphoria reached its peak during the encore of "Fins," which had even the oldest fans forming the big fin with their arms and dancing back and forth — and miraculously managing not to look ridiculous.
But that's the point of Buffett, right? To relax, drink in the weather (and more) and have fun. Even after all these years, Buffett certainly is.

I didnt see the bead incident happen(I was in the middle of the lawn), but the idea of someone hitting Jimmy with beads in the eye REALLLY makes me mad at them. I really hope it was not intentional!
I cant say I recognised the errors ethier, but I did see the roadie on stage a LOT, but part of that was the people behind me. They were singing way to lound, and insulting Jimmy(
WHY???).
However I did see the beach ball hit Mac during Its My Job. That got me mad, I know that it was probibly an accident, but still, it hit Mac. But Mac seemed to laugh it off, so I didnt get over upset about it.
This was my 2nd JB show, and I have to say that it
RRUUUUULLLEEEEEDDDD
I had SUCH a great time! The BuffettNews people are AMAZING, and Jimmy ROCKED!!!!!!
