Margaritaville Tequila Reps Stole My Sign in Chicago. . . .
My goodness, I just posted this story for some of your opinions. . not so you could be vultures and rip me apart. . I guess you're firmly against me. . . and thats fine, I just thought I'd share the story with my "Phriends" on here.
Yes, that was us in the Holiday INN, and yes it did fall on a fellow parrothead but don't make it out like it was some horrible people and we did it on purpose. It was the last thing we wanted to happen and we ended up talkin and partyin with the guys for a few hours, they couldn't have been more cool about it.

I don't want to sound judgemental or preach to ya...but you had stolen merchandise...someone of your friends stole that sign from somewhere...it was not purchased by you or by them . It did not rightfully belong to you...I find it kind of funny that you are freaking out over someone trying to get back what was rightfuly theirs. I, for one...would not parade around stolen stuff...no matter how cool it looked on top of my car. If someone stole something from you...wouldn't you make an effort to get it back? And I doubt you would give the person gifts in exchange for getting what belonged to you back. I say, enjoy the t-shirts and be happy you were arrested.
And about your comment that you have 'contributed" more than $600 in the past through ticket purchaes...come on! What if every fan thought they had the right to steal something worth $600 because they have gone to some concerts???
(Haley is apretty big guy, huh??

MidwestPhish wrote:Well, as much as I love Jimmy himself, his corporations and businesses have rubbed me the wrong way for awhile and what happened saturday may be the end of it for me.
I recieved an incredible gift from some friends this summer, a 10 foot high, 18 foot wide Margaritaville Tequila sign. It was the biggest thing I have ever seen. Made out of very tough nylon material, I'm tellin' you this thing was amazing, I'll post a pic on here when I get them back.
Since I have had this unbelievable poster I spent two weeks building a hoist for it on top of my Dodge Durango. This thing took a good amount of time and cost over a hundred bucks. But, When I hoisted this thing on top of my car it was all worth it.
I could not wait to unveil this at the Saturday Chicago show, the whole parking lot would be in awe. No sooner did we pull it out on saturday than the "head of the tequila division," some chick was all over us about, where did you get this? and telling us to give it back right then and it was hers! Well, this was unbelievable to me and I'm not gonna hand this over to the first person who says it's thiers.
Well, she didn't hang around long, she went to get some intimidation. She comes back witht he biggest African American guy on staff, who was "Jimmy's personal body guard" and this other skinny "official looking" white guy.
So these three amigos come marching up to us with Posters and T-shirts and banners and talking about giving us all this free tequila. Needless to say we had hidden the sign in another Phriends car by this time. So they went on and on about how it was stolen proprety and we had to give it back. The funniest part was when I didn't take the stuff right away they scooped it back up and all three started to look around for the police. It was a 20 minute ordeal, they'd offer it again I'd say no and they'd say "oh, thats ok, we'll just get the police."
That part was pretty histerical. But the part that really p*** me off was that the chick said the banner was $600 bucks. So they were out here harrassing me over 600 bucks? Excuse me, but in tickets, merchendise, people I have brought to concerts and so on, I've made these shmuks a lot more than 600 bucks over the years.
The worst part was all the lies they kept telling me to get it back, they just couldn't be honest. They started off by telling me the t-shirts were 50 bucks each and there were 7 of them. . so 350 bucks in t-shirst for a 600 banner? ummm. . nahhhhhh. LOL, the t-shirts were 4 or 5 bucks each. Secondly they told me the 600 bucks came out of the chicks pay. Seriously? Well that sucks, because every concert I go to I see lots and lots of plastic, 3 x 5 MT signs and guess what, by the time intermission comes every single one is off the fences, if that all comes out of her pay then she might just owe MT money for having her job. Theres no way you can convince me Jimmy docks her 600 bucks for a stolen sign. Finally they told me they had already files a theft report, well, skinny white looking official guy, you haven't gotten our names, addresses, phone numbers or even my license plate. . . how are you going to file a theft report?
So, after all that I didn't give them the sign, My girlfriend, however, did. Understandably so, since she is preparing for the bar exam (law not buffett's) this silly incident is not something I wanted her to have over her head ianyway. And for only 600 bucks a sign I'll have a few printed.
In the end, they took my sign, left me with some pathetic t-shirts and I'll be sipping my coconut rum and pepsi every night from now instead of my Margaritaville Tequila and Margaritaville Mix I loved. It sucks but for them to be that greedy and treat fans like they did me, forget it.
The funny thing was right when we parked they gave us a banner for having margaritavile tequila in our hands. . .
So what do you all think of these corporate extensions of Jimmy. He does creat this atmoshpere we all love, but dealing with his actual business brings me right back to reality.
Are you the ones in the Holiday Inn Parking lot who had a hard time keeping that banner up--and caused a fellow parrothead to get hurt when it fell on him?????

Don't confuse disagreement with tearing you apart. I don't think anyone intended to be malicious. You just asked for our opinions and we gave them. Sorry it wasn't what you wanted to hear...MidwestPhish wrote:My goodness, I just posted this story for some of your opinions. . not so you could be vultures and rip me apart. . I don't think anyone here tore you apart...we simply gave you our opinion...something you did ask for.
You or your friends stole something that was obviously valuable enough to the company you took it from to come get it back from you. The fact that you were upset that they had the nerve to do that is what surprised me. And the fact that you wanted to hold it against Jimmy...no personal attacks at all.

it was one of my buddies head that the thing fell on...he was totaly cool with it...I think his consumption of corona did have something to do with the fact that he didn't get out of the way. He said he saw it coming but couldn't get out of the way fast enough...I think the wood would have held, the wind was just a little strong for such a big sign...nobody should be worried about the guy that got hit by this by the sign, he is fine and he did enjoy talking to you guys...
...and if this sign was 'so important' to them, why didn't they gaurd it a little for it not to get stolen...I don't know how anyone could be very 'sly' about taking something as big as that was...

maybe the gal from MT wasn't tactful as she could be, but considering she basically bribed you to get it back and your girlfriend didn't need to learn how to post bail, i think you made out pretty well.
I'd feel bad for you, but I have no soul.....

I'd be sure I did...kitty wrote:I hope no one ever steals anything from you that you value....jiggs(2) wrote:it was one of my buddies head that the thing fell on...he was totaly cool with it...I think his consumption of corona did have something to do with the fact that he didn't get out of the way. Exactly - I bet there are things that you value in your house that you don't guard so they don't get stolen - does that make it OK for people to come and take them?kitty wrote:I hope no one ever steals anything from you that you value....jiggs(2) wrote:

Is it day?
Actually that is untrue...many things that I truley value are protected, sure I am not there watching it all the time but there are steps that can be taken to protect them...other things can be replaced rather than going through the steps to replace them...I am not going to get in an argument here over right an wrong, but if this banner, which I was told there were only 2 ever made, was so important they could have taken measures for it to remain where is was...7lords wrote:Exactly - I bet there are things that you value in your house that you don't guard so they don't get stolen - does that make it OK for people to come and take them?kitty wrote:I hope no one ever steals anything from you that you value....jiggs(2) wrote:
