Does anyone know why they had the big field across form the Raceway closed. They had the people lined up the street and onto the backroads. Still was a great time but not like years past. Just wondering if anyone got an explanation. Thanks

Did I miss something?
Ok, it was my 11th Buffett concert...but first ever in Cincy. Great show, even better people. I am happy I went.
BUT...there was a universal agreement that Cincy has got to do something about the tailgating. Yes, we got there early (1 pm)...parked along the BIG GRASS LOT that stood pathetically empty because some bonehead lawyers decided they either didn't want to cover insurance...or they didn't want to clean up the lot after...whatever the rumor was.
THEN...was walked along that street up to the Riverbend entrance..found some good tailgating...but not like the mass tailgating I'm used to seeing at Alpine and other places. My question to CINCY vets...Did I miss other lots or something? We hit the kind of big one that was across from Riverfront with the big sand & limbo...but that appeared to be the only main tailgate spot. Did I miss something?
As for the concrete lots...they really didn't open until 5:30ish...which is too late.
One last concern...a really bad accident happened right infront of us after the show right in front of the horse track. Traffic control really dropped the ball by NOT having any officers working that exit. No one was hurt thankfully, but, it was a hard hit...and some serious damage...not to mention, it took 45 minutes for police JUST TO ARRIVE at the AX SCENE. For all of you leaving Riverbend...that's why it took so long.
STILL...an awesome time...thankyou cincy!

The tailgating this year was not evan close to the years before. The BIG LOT that was close is where I used to go and was the place to go. I was lucky in arriving early to be in the smaller lot at 12:30 and it was pack. The lot was almost too pack to really do anything. However, I did enjoy all who I met. If I remember right there was a really bad accident last year too that happen in the BIG LOT that was closed. So yes the tailgating was really down this year and hopefully the other lot will be open to return the tailgating the way it used to be.

My husband and I arrived in Cincy at 4pm; later than I wanted but oh well
. We drove up and down the road a couple of times trying to figure out where to park. We ended up tailgating at AJ's, which was nice, but it sure was a long stumble, err... walk
back afterwards. It was our first trip to Cincy and we loved the town and atmosphere. However, WE WILL NEVER GET LAWN SEATS AGAIN! We almost got into a fight and my husband had 3 beers poured on him. I'm young, 27, but the others close to my age were out of hand. If you only know 2-3 songs, don't come or if you do, please don't stand next to me. My hubby, myself and two people next to me were the only ones on the lawn singing 'This Hotel Room' and 'Growing Older But Not Up.' I had fun, but the whole situation left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Anyone who had their first Cincy experience this year really didn't get the full effect without the main lot (the grassy one) available. I can't help but wonder if there didn't just end up being more problems as a result of not having that lot open. We took the back way back to the Motel 6 where we stayed, and there seemed to be an awful lot of cars stuck in the ditch, etc. That was a HUGE tailgaiting area to block off with no notice, and when people come from all over to make a day of it, they're not just going to give up on the idea altogether. I suppose if I were the person who was liable for anything that happened there, I might feel differently, but I do think the situation put a lot of people in a bind. Of course, there was still plenty of fun to be had, and I for one had a blast in spite of it all. I guess when life hands us limes, we just have to make margaritas!
Thanks to everyone who helped make the "atmosphere" so phriendly and phun! ^^^^^

I am new at this, but had to join to discuss the show at Riverbend. It seems to me that Cincinnati has both some of the greatest fans and, unfortunately, many of the worst. My husband and I and another parrothead couple that we met at the tailgate down a side road, sang along with every song. We were on the lawn with other people who discussed UK basketball throughout the entire concert, they also spilled beer on us several times and were generally rude to everyone who wanted to hear the concert. Yes, we will probably be back next year, but other venues gave us better experiences this year. I would definitely recommend the tailgating at Alpine Valley - it was worth the trip.

I guess its my turn. Better late than never or so they say. Our plan was to bring the Phinmobile and hook up with the Cincy Parrotheads and throw the biggest party anyone has ever seen in the field across from River Downs. We were running late and Chestine from CPHC was already informed that there would be no parking in the field. We were back and forth on the phone about 10 times while she looked for a suitable spot for themselves and our entourage. She managed to score the lot across from Coney Island. Meanwhile, we had just arrived (10am) and I went and talked to the guys on a golf cart in the lot across from the field. Their official word was that the field was off limits due to liquor liability and the paved lot would not open till 6. We went to the Coney Island and got ahold of the guy in charge of facilities and told him what we were about to do and make sure he was ok with it. Sidenote: We usually bring 2000lbs of sand for the limbo area. CPHC had a hookup for us but we didn't want to shovel it out of a pickup so they offered a dump truck. What we didn't know was that the dump truck was loaded with 22,000lbs!!! The look on my face must have been priceless as I stood there with my single landscape rake and watched the pile grow faster than I could say stop. With the help of fellow Parrotheads and a lot of sweat we managed to finally get the stuff spread enough to use. About that time the 2 porta-potties were delivered. The party went well.... very well. The temporary tatoos were a hit with the ladies and the porta-pottie donations paid for themselves and raised some money to help teach kids to read. Despite the sweltering heat, parrotheads from all over limboed till their feet about fell off. Our thanks to the CPHC for helping make our road trip such a success. As a member of the DPHC and the POTGL, I am proud to have made phriends with the CPHC. Also, hats off to everyone there.... some familiar faces... some new ones. To our phriends from Canada that we met last year.... you rock! Next year your tiki bar better be right next to us! As for the concert... I could write another novel. We loved the set list and Bubba was full of energy without regard for the hellacious heat index. To top it off for me was making it on Margaritavision during CILCIA.... dancing on top of the trailer with the shark while leading the tailgaters in Fins. 5 seconds of rock star status...... thank you Jimmy!!!! The moral of the story: Expect the worst, hope for the best, and take what you get. Its all about the music and the people. CINCY 2003 ROCKED!!!!!!!!!!!

hey f2cdlzrd, i just wanted to let you know that you had at least 1 other person in your age group, i'm 28, singing those two songs with you.
i have to say, hearing hotel room really made my night. hopefully cincy gets the tailgating fixed by next summer so those people that bothered you have longer to drink and don't make it into the concert.

this was our first year and we found a spot in the smaller lot, getting there about 12:30 or so. Unfortunately the heat really got to me and we had to leave early. Certainly apologize to all who had to move their limbo sticks, couldn't avoid it though, was about ready to pass out from the heat!! Had a really great time, looking forward to next year already, making a list of what we didn't bring this time. CONCERT WAS GREAT!!!

We must have been on opposite sides of the lawn, because I was singing too! I got a lot of funny looks from the people around me though. I haven't been going to JB concerts for that long, but I do remember when it wasn't quite as "in" to go. Now it seems half the people there are there just because they think it's the cool thing to do....but songs like "It's my Job" and "Hotel Room" make it pretty obvious who those people are. I loved every minute of this year's show though, in spite of getting funny looks from people who thought I was a dork for knowing every word to every song.f2cdlzrd wrote:My hubby, myself and two people next to me were the only ones on the lawn singing 'This Hotel Room' and 'Growing Older But Not Up.'
Was anyone else impressed with the dancers he had this year? They're always great, but I felt he put on more of a "show" than he usually does. Two fins up!!

Hi, this is Chestine, Here from the CPHC- Just a note to thank all who stopped by to party with us At the Cincy concert. And, special thanks to Dave and the entire Phinmobile Crew. Despite the heat, joining up with your crew made it an unforgettable day. It was great being a part of the phinmobile experience. We can’t wait to join forces again next year.
The concert, of course, was the highlight of the day. Don’t know about everyone else, but I felt like Jimmy had done a completely new concert, just for us.

I truley belive that Dave is the hardest working Parrothead when it comes to putting on the tailgate. I also want to thank Chestine for all her hard work. The porto jon's where a sight for sore eyes for some people.

Thanks dude! But the truth must be told..... the gross display of grown-ups acting like children that you see is a group effort. Our crew and the CPHC all worked together to make that tailgate happen. Not to mention the guys that were parked near us that helped us attempt to spread that enormous mountain of sand.
