The best show that didn't happen ... at The Sports Page

Post by redwinemaker »

In the tradition of true parrotheads, the NorCal gang and friends carried on as Bubba would have wanted us to... to wit, the party at the Sports Page on Shoreline Blvd went on as scheduled.

The Players: Brown Eyed Girl, Zero Duval, Jeepgirl, Albatross Flyer, AF's friend Shannon, Mrs MCG, HikingonTuesday, Dana29, Poolboy Bob, Mrs. Poolboy, LSP (slut) the NorCal PHIP club, yours truly and a host of assorted other loonies.

The Entertainment: Eric Pietsch the Whaleshark and a surprise guest (no not Alan J).

There were many at the Sports Page already when the news was announced that Mrs. Buffett had taken a turn for the worse and our hero took a quick flight to be with her (thats one reason why he's a hero). Others were en route. Still others came anyway.

Eric Pietsch played on as scheduled and the margaritas, beer, cheeseburgers, garlic fries and the occasional shot of silver or gold flowed. There was a hula contest, complete with grass skirts and plastic boobs (on the men and women). Sharkfin hats and leis abounded. We drank, we met friends old and new, we signed LSP (slut), we commiserated, we sang and danced and we drank some more.

When the appointed time for Eric Pietsch to shut down arrived, he played on ... and on. We toasted at 8:00 when the show that wouldn't be was to have started. Then, totally unannounced, Garret Wilkens and the Parrotheads showed up, set up and began to play!

Jimmy, thank you. Thanks for playing for us, thanks for loving your Mom and family. You took care of what you had to and we carried on without you. Not the same, but a great evening nevertheless. You taught us well. Go Parrotheads!

You lost your voice? I thought you lost your womb! Sorry everyone, you had to be there for that, but Jeep, JoJo (Mrs. Poolboy Bob) and Molly, Garrat's steel drum player, and I almost fell down laughing over Molly thinking Jeep had said she lost her womb, not her woohooo.

CRC, I kept waiting for the band to take a break so we could call you back but they never stopped! I will call you this weekend. 8)

We did make the best of a horrible situation, and made many new friends. I'm sure Jimmy and his family could feel all the prayers coming his way. :(

Just want to say Amen to the good words that redwinemaker wrote. Despite the sad news, it was so good to finally meet some of you. As I mentioned, I am not a frequent poster ... only for special topics. This is one of them. Hubby and I didn't stay for the Reefers ... left for Los Gatos and some great Mex and a couple more margaritas! No problem today at ticketmaster. Hope it's not a long wait for the next JB event!

Red Wine Maker said it all above -- but THANK YOU 7 LORDS for our name tags! It was easy to find each other and know we were all in the same boat.

The day was a great as it could be given our circumstances.

I had a wonderful time and look forward to next year's West Coast shows!
I wanna go back to the Island...

See you in Boston, September 2nd!

HI RWM!!

I checked my Wine Celler and discovered that I have two bottles of your 1996 Syrah... Should I open them now or keep them for special occasion! Lord knows I don't want vinegar.

Don't forget we need to be able to order the Crush shirts!

Can someone post photos from the Sports Page??

Hey we were hanging out at Sportspage in the old painted motorhome (it is my brother-in-laws) parked in front of Sportspage. I don't remember meeting a lot of people even though those in our group said I met quite a few of you pholks. I was the 6'6" guy wearing the Erik Pietsch shirt. Hope you guys enjoyed Erik sing and come see him again when he comes to Cali again. What a phun night!!

Wow, this post buffett event thread has had more life than most of the posts from buffett concerts that actually took place this summer. We must have had a good time. According to the bartender at the Sports Page on Monday (I had to go back and get my credit card from the bar) they were able to have a pretty good night and were actually astounded that they were kept hoppin until last call by many of us. I have pictures that I will try to post. Jo Jo and I were glad to have met many of you and hope for the people that traveled far, we were able to give you enough Nor-Cal hospitality to make your journey somewhat memorable.

1996 was Lodi Appellation... I only tasted that wine once, it was sold out before I started here. It's probably pretty good right now.

Great. I think I'll open a bottle of wine tonight! One week since our great night...

Hi Poolboy Bob! Please tell JoJo that Dana will be calling her for that promised adopted family.

The Catepillar Car was my co-worker's friends parents. My co-worker was there with the baseball guy and that group -- yet I never saw her! That just goes to show you that I was having such a nice time with all my BNers that I wasn't "walking the place" like I usually would have!

Come visit Arizona... We are finally under a 100 degrees for the first time since Mid-May!!! 8) 8) :D :P
