How about the songs Jimmy wants, and not us. . . . .

Post by MidwestPhish »

I posted something like this long while back, not too many people got it though because they agreed with me, then started posting the songs they wished he would play. . . . . which was opposite of nwhy they were agreeing with me.

Ok, let's not kid ourselves, Mr. Buffett knows about this site, and chances are from time to time he browses through and reads some of the posts. So let's send him a message. Whether it be his next tour or his very last tour or whatever he wants. . . . He needs to play the setlist HE, NOT US, would want to play. And who knows what it would be, but at least it would be truely Buffett and not a setlist catered thousands of non-parrotheads who only know 4 songs at the show.

So Jimmy, here's my vote, I'm not going to list any songs I want to hear, I want to listen to you sign the songs that move you, the songs you would love to hear. When I go to your shows I can always tell the one or two songs you're just asbsolutly loving when you play them. . . I want to see that spark in every song you sing just for one show.

So Parrotheads, here's your chance, let Jimmy know you want him to play his favorites! You know it would be a show for the ages! Now please don't go posting your one or two favorites you wish Bubba would throw in. . . .

"If It All Falls Down", "Sail On Salior", "In My Life", 3 songs I've witnessed Jimmy perform and it seemed he was so excited that he sang the words too fast and out of time! Thats when he's excited about playing a song!

If he were ever to do a "farewell" tour, I would hope it would be the songs that HE wants to play...not for us, but for him. He deserves at least that much for all the years he's felt he had to play Margaritaville to satisfy the crowd. Just one tour, I'd like for it to be all about HIM.

as a consumer of double digit records, cd's etc..., i can do without ANY SYKBH on these dvd's.. but it is out of our control and they will add 3 songs we want and it will be enough to convince me to buy unfortunatley.

 That's why I said "if he were to ever" instead of "when"...but don't worry, I don't see JB retiring, ever. He may resort to accoustical shows at smaller venues but he will ALWAYS perform in some way. He just seems to enjoy it too much to give it up. IMHO.

I got a feeling I'm about to get flamed, but here goes anyway:

The way I see it, if any artist were to go out there simply to play whatever they wanted without catering to their audience, then that artist should pay the crowd to come. Since we, as an audience, are collectively paying performers huge amounts of money to sing to us, why shouldn't we have some input with regards to the product we are buying? Would you walk into a car dealership and hand the salesman $30,000 and tell him "just give me whatever car you feel like selling today"?

That said, I realize that 15,000 individual people will never come to a concensus on whether or not the world is round, let alone a set list of 30 songs - so my point is pretty much moot.

But what the hell, somebody had to say it...

You would think that he would play what he wanted to and not what he thought his phans wanted him too. He has such a loyal following, I don't think anybody except maybe the virgins would care one lick if he missed SYKBH type songs. Seems it would be more fun for him if he relived some of the older stuff from a1a or HD, 3/4 time. But it's his show and I enjoy being there no matter what he plays. Maybe the "country disk" he is contemplating will bring back some of that sound!!!!

I don't know why feels obiliged to play it.

I really don't think that any of us who knows what's going on would disagree.

It's Jimmy's show, and any songs he chooses to play suit me just fine, because I love all of his work. That's why I'm glad he's been throwing songs like "Apocalypso," "Pacing the Cage," and "Burn That Bridge" into the set lists on the last tour, along with the classics. No matter what he plays, I'll be satisfied.

No flames from me....my first thought was, "Well, if Jimmy pays to hear me sing....I'll sing what he likes:::SNORT::::like that could happen....but since PH's pay to hear Jimmy sing....hmmmm, seems we should hear what we like." I guess the larger question is "Do we get to hear what we want?".....that would be a twelve hour concert!!
If I were to schedule a private performance for me and a couple hundred of my favorite PH's I'm sure the set list would look a little different......BTW I'll be having a bake sale to finance that private show....details at a later date!

First let me say as long as Bubba plays, I'll be there. However, I've seen him 5 times this year and I sometimes get tired of SYKBH. I know it's a tour and all that but for once I wish he would play acoustic, just him, whatever his heart led him to play. To me, that would be a concert for the ages!

I think Jimmy does a pretty good job of covering his bases... he plays the requisite songs and he mixes in quite a few more obscure tracks.

Does make me wonder what people would do if Jimmy DID play what he wants - maybe it would be covers like Brown Eyed Girl and Southern Cross?! Of course when he does cover songs, people complain about that too.

And as far as cheeseburger - I'm sure Jimmy would ditch it if most folks didn't sing along. But as long as they do, I imagine it will be a staple.
