Whats not to like? Everything is right here in this box set. The book that comes with it is very interesting as well.

Party in a box.4 out of 5 stars.****
This box set is what really got me into Jimmy,
I love the Boats,Beaches, and Bars discs.I only like the Ballads disc.At first I thought this was all the Buffett that I would need. But when
I started buying all the Buffett albums I noticed a few more songs that probably should have been on it such as:
We are the people our parent's warned us about
Banana republics
Last mango in Paris
Cowboy in the jungle
Migration
I guess there are too many great songs out there by Jimmy to please everyone but I have all his albums anyway.

I too take this box set where ever I travel...and when I'm not traveling, obviously, I have it in my disc changer at home. Every CD is good, but Boats really stands out and is my favorite CD ever...better than the Beetles! Boats has soooo many great Buffett tunes and you don't even need to know what a Parrothead is inorder to enjoy it.
If you've been debating whether to get it....GET IT!!! Much better introduction to the Church of Buffett than Songs You Know By Heart.
The cheapest place to get it is BMG Music club...they have deals all the time and sometimes they have buy 1 get 2 free...that's right, buy one box set for $40.00 and get 2 more free...can't beat that! If you can't wait, then goto DVDx-change.com and pick up a coupon for CDNOW.com or barnesandnoble.com and you can get it for under $40.00 shipped!

I HAVE A COUSIN WHO KNOWS A GUY WHO KNOWS A GUY WHO WORKS FOR THE WAREHOUSE WHICH IS A DISTRIBUTORSHIP FOR MCA RECORDS (SO THEY ALL SAY), AND MY DEAR CUZZY WAS ABLE TO GET ME THE BOX SET FOR $28.00. (CDs, NOT CASSETTES). AS FAR AS THE MUSIC ON THE SET GOES, HOW COULD SOMETHING LIKE THIS EVER BE SURPASSED? IT'S ALL TOP OF THE LINE JIMMY BUFFETT. THERE ARE MAYBE TWO OR THREE I COULD DO WITHOUT, BUT WHAT THE HAY? DIFFERENT TASTES FOR EVERYONE, RIGHT? IF I HAD TO PICK MY FAVORITE INDIVIDUAL CD FROM THIS SET, IT WOULD BE A HARD CHOICE, BUT I'D PROBABLY GO WITH "BEACHES."
AND, SINCE THIS CAME OUT IN 1992, I BELIEVE ENOUGH TIME HAS PASSED TO DO A SECOND BOX SET. ANYBODY AGREE? OR AT LEAST A DOUBLE OR DOUBLE LIVE CD.

Heck ya mon...Minister, definitely agree. Bubba's got enough great material to add to that box set...he'll probably wait till he retires before another box set comes out though. If that's the case, then hopefully it won't be for a while.

I read somewhere that it's one of the best selling box sets ever.
Right now I'm really feeling the Ballads disc and thats the one that I used to leave at home.
I hope that one day Jimmy will put out a collection of hard to find songs,
b-sides,soundtrack songs,
outakes,whatever!!!!I'll buy it!!!!

sonofabeach,
You probably already have it, but in case you don't, there is a collection of some of his older stuff written before he moved to Key West appropriately entitled "Before the Beach".

Don't have that one.
I think it's just a compilation of his first two albums.I bought "There's Nothing Soft About Hard Times"even though it's a rehashing of old songs but it was only $8.99 and had a cool looking cover.
I guess I bit the bait.~~^^^phinz UP!!!!

Just like the sticker on the box says, "A PARTY IN A BOX", and ain't it the truth? At the time it came out this was about 32% of Jimmy's library. Chances are that if you didn't own "SYKBH" as your first Buffett recording then it was probably this one and at $60 or less you really can't go wrong here. The rarities alone are worth the plunge and those are what i plan to highlite.
Written for "the good guys" in the America's Cup race in '87, "Take it Back" was debuted in Australia in the hopes of empowering our team to victory and bringing the Cup back where it belongs. Meant to be on "Hot Water", "Love and Luck" is sugar and spice and everything nice in the way it grabs your hips, making you shake them Saturday night until the sun comes up Sunday morning. Who needs Ron Popeil and his "unnecessary plastic sh#t" (as Jimmy has called it) when you've got a "Money Back Guarantee" on love from Jimmy Buffett and the Neville Brothers? It's nice to have "Christmas in the Caribbean" in the boxed set since i was sleeping when "A Tennessee Christmas" came out. One of the more bizarre Buffett songs has to be "Elvis Imitators". Originally recorded for "Somewhere Over China", one might wonder why it didn't appear on that album--was Jimmy "that" embarrassed about this song? Written in part with Dan Fogelberg, "Domino College" was supposed to be on "Floridays" and maybe it's a good thing it wasn't. Though it is a good song, it would have sounded out-of-place and could have tarnished that near-perfect album. There are two songs in this party-box that rise above the rest and they are the 2 rare ballads "Everlasting Moon" and "Middle of the Night". There is a certain presence to these songs that just can't be described, but they were played at my best friends wedding reception and more people danced to them than any other songs that night. You can also find a riveting LIVE version of "Middle of the Night" on a laserdisc titled "The Neville Brothers and Friends-Tell It Like It Is".
The year after the best-selling boxed set of all time was released something special came out. "Margaritaville--Late Night Menu" was the icing on the cake that parrotheads needed (along with the boxed set) to fill the gap left after "Off to See the Lizard" and "Feeding Frenzy". It wouldn't be fair to evaluate this disc without covering all the songs and artists, and that would take up a lot of room. So take my word for it that "Late Night Menu" belongs in your collection if it's not already there even if you only want the Buffett songs.
Then there is the disc "Before the Beach" which is a good collection of rough-and-tumble tunes. If these were the songs parrotheads had been requesting for years, the question must have been, "was it worth it?".
score--box set (overall): 6+ coronas (out of 5)
score--8 rarities: 5 1/2 coronas (of 5)
score--Late Night Menu: 5 of 5 coronas
score--Before the Beach: 3 of 5 coronas

Aside from the gathering of excellent tracks on all four records, the only disturbing thing about this box set is the lack of unreleased material. Certainly Jimmy has more tracks in the can from album sessions, but if you read some of the old Rolling Stone interviews and articles, among other reading, I've been lead to believe that Jimmy did cover songs not only because he liked them and wanted to put his stamp on them but also because of a lack of original material, or if not a lack of originals, a severe dive in quality, something that would be more noticeable later on with tracks like Vampires, Cultural Infidel and Math Suks. Regardless, the box set is excellent, giving us insight on the rest of the Hot Water tracks with ......The Neville Brothers. It makes an excellent companion for vacations or whenever one doesn't feel like lugging around all the records that MCA did a shitty job of releasing on CD with absolutely no respect for the liner notes and artwork. You'd think MCA would rerelease all the records with the original artwork in them instead of who MCA's artists are. Even though they started to improve the quality of liner notes with Floridays on up to Feeding Frenzy, thank Jimmy for starting up Margaritaville and Mailboat Records. He's done what he's wanted to: made the liner notes for the CD sleeves a complete record again.

The ultimate JB collection.
Kick back with your favorite boat drink and enjoy.
There are some songs I feel could have been added to this box set. But then again I think JB has enough good material to come out with another box set.

This collection of classics is just that, classic.
The "Ballads" CD has even gotten my wife into this "Parrotthead Madness". If I can't find it, it is in her car.
"Boats" definately is the best of the collection.

The JB box set was the 3rd Buffett album I got, and really turned me onto the music. Now, 4 years later, I still listen to BBB&B just as much as I did on day one. We are all VERY grateful this collection of songs was released. Hopefully we will all be lucky enough to be treated to another box set in the next five years or so. Maybe a collection of live tracks, or some that were previously unreleased.
Overall 5 out of 5.
Thanks Jimmy

I just ordered this set last night (along with AWSCAAPC, A1A, and Christmas Island to complete my collection!) and I must say I'm not disappointed at all! I helped get this for my father for Christmas last year and after listening to it with him in the car and numerous other places I decided to buy my own copy. Every song is great and I love the book and all the rarities. Definately worth every penny! 5/5 Phins^^^^^
