Tommy's playing a house concert in Raleigh in August. Looking forward to finally seeing him in concert, especially after hearing (and reading) so much good stuff about him over the years.DAB wrote:

I don't own any Paul Thorn records but I have enjoyed everything I've heard by him over the years. By the way, a few friends of mine and myself maintain a calendar for local (and some not so local) twang friendly (and some not so twang friendly) concerts for the area that you can check out here. Every once in a while a show will slip by us but for the most part I'd say we do a pretty good job of keeping track of them all. I know one that's pretty high on my list at present is the free show Chatham County Line are putting on at Sadlack's on Hillsborough Street next Tuesday to celebrate the release of their new live album called Sight + Sound. The show is being put on by Schoolkids Records who are adjacent to Sadlack's.Parrothead27330 wrote:
I heard about Paul Thorn from a couple that I run into often at The Lincoln Theater in Raleigh. I've seen them at Reckless Kelly, Randy Rogers Band and Robert Earl Keen shows so I thought they have to had good taste in music. I got the chance to see Paul and his band recently in Chapel Hill and really liked his sound. I own several of his CDs now and they get played a lot from my iPod. His latest CD is all covers called "What The Hell Is Going On?". If you decide to check him out on youtube, try "If I Can Get Over Her", Pimps And Preachers, and Mood Ring.

Thanks, I like that calendar, that's a good idea! I keep a spreadsheet up with shows that interest me. It's kinda neat to track who comes around and how many opportunities I have have missed.Tiki Torches wrote:I don't own any Paul Thorn records but I have enjoyed everything I've heard by him over the years. I think you are referring to "Reckless Kelly Was Here". That was the first CD of theirs that I had bought also. I picked it up the first time I seen them. I bought it because of the song "Castanets" because it had stuck with me. It was after a few times listening to it I realized it was a Alejandro Escovedo cover song.conched wrote:Reckless Kelly. I just saw them LIVE this evening, so I bought their CD/DVD package I'd never bought. Good stuff. They were good tonight too. I hadn't seen them since 2009.
