Need help, may be a dumb question.......

Post by FansMom »

I am not a Jimmy fan (Nothing personal! I like the stuff I hear but I am into other music more). HOWEVER.......my seventeen year old high school senior is a MAJOR fan! She graduates high school this coming June 2004. I would dearly love to make her graduation gift from her dad and me a pair of tickets to a Buffet concert. I've tried to look for a concert schedule and do not see one. Maybe he doesn't do concerts? I am unsure. If I ask my daughter (who surely knows) I risk blowing any surprise. I'm wondering if anyone knows if he is touring, will be touring, how I can get tickets, etc.? Would love to have the opportunity for her to see him this summer before she starts college. Please forgive me if thesse are dumb questions, I would just like to give her a gift I know she would love.

If Jimmy is in the market for a very young bride, my daughter swears she is going to marry him one day as he is her idol.............which is odd, because I think he might be slightly older than my husband and me, and she thinks we are mummified, neanderthal, WAY over the hill, barely human, certainly not worth the time of day unless we are handing her car keys or money, type of people. Yet she wants to marry Jimmy! So you can see why I am looking for concert tix for her. Besides, if she marries Jimmy, that lets us off the hook to pay for her college education, LOL! :pirate:

Thanks to any who can help us. BTW, we live in Connecticut so would be looking for concerts in the Northeast. Again, sorry if my questions are ignorant. Chalk it up to that description my daughter has assigned to us that I explained above! [/img]

Not ingnorant at all. In fact, how COOL of you to want to give her that gift and find this website too! :D

Jimmy does indeed tour each year. He is happily married, however. So don't blow that college tuition on a Club Med vacation for you and Fan's Dad. Guess you can't have everything.

When his summer tour is announced, it will be under the "tour dates" drop down box at the VERY top of the page. It's always anyone's guess when the dates will be announced, but it probably won't be til after the first of the year.

There will be several ways to buy tickets. I've always had luck with TicketMaster (there are very strong opinions about TicketMaster). I would suggest that you pre-register, and be on the computer literally the MINUTE they go on sale.

Can anyone else add anything CONSTRUCTIVE to help this mom? By "constructive" I mean, don't bash TicketMaster if you don't like them, just offer a possible alternative.

By the way, there are some VERY cool BuffettNewsers in the Connecticut area! :D

Best of luck to you, Cool Mom! :D

Oh boy.....how did you find this site? if the answer is your daughter is she gonna read this??

As for concert info.......look up in the left hand corner, you will see "news" and "tour dates" that is where you find upcoming and mostly up to date info. He continues to do concerts, soon on the West Coast for make up dates and then Hawaii. He will be in your neighborhood mid/late summer most likely and Ticketmaster will be your huckleberry for tickets. If that fails try the ticket exhange..most all parrotheads believe in face value for extra tickets as scalping Bubba is an no no.

As for marrying Bubba, she will grow out of it I hope... :o :o :o

and since Auntie post just barely ahead of me this is all repeat info and I second her notion that you are doing a very nice thing for your love struck daughter. :D :D

No question is a dumb one. Jimmy tours all the time. This winter he will be on the left coast, but in the summer, he will be on the east coast. The schedule will come out in Feb/March and tickets will go on sale shortly after. The schedule will come up on Margaritaville.com or at Buffettnews.com. He does concerts in Mass. toward the end of summer. All the concerts sell out in less than a 1/2 hour. The way I always get tickets is either thru ticketmaster.com or calling them directly.
As for a young wife, he already has one, the same one for over 20 years! Sorry to break that news!!!
She will LOVE the concert and you are a cool mom to be getting her tickets. If you have any more questions, just ask and anyone will help!

What auntie said! You are certainly far from ignorant since:

a. You want to give your daughter such a cool gift
b. You found Buffettnews.com to try to make that happen

The tour should be announced soon, meaning in the next couple months. You can also check out Margaritaville.com for the dates, and ticket sale dates. Most shows are hard to get tickets for, and they sell out fast, so you should plan on calling or clicking Ticketmaster the second they are on sale. If you miss out, and you aren't willing to pay brokers excess fees, there is also a "ticket exchange" section under the tour dates tab, where sellers are not permitted to charge over face value.

I'm midwestern, so I can't say for sure which venues are in the vicinity of Connecticut. All I can add is that you may want to consider tickets for "mom and dad" too - it's a GREAT time!

Your daughter is very lucky!

That is great you came on this site to ask this info. Yes, Jimmy is spoken for, but i've seen alot of posts around here of parrotheads looking for each other.... :P you may also goto PHIP.com- this is the Parrothead ring where you can also look up your local chapter for more info. I'm sure there is one in the CT area.

As most have said no summer tour dates yet. But they come out in Febuary and go on sale in march just about every year. The most important thing you must do is buy right when the go on sale. If you wait just five minites they all shows will be sold out. As far as what show to get tickets for, any show will rock but the best and I do mean best place to see Jimmy is at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin. It may be a bit of a drive but I know that any parrothead as heard of Two places to see Jimmy, Great woods(Boston area-Labor day) and Alpine Valley(The Best place). I have seen Jimmy 11 times over the last 3 years and have seen him in many different places but nothing and I do mean nothing is as good as Alpine. It is worth the drive!

If you can get her tickets to the GreatWoods show up in Mass. you would probably be the coolest parent on the world. Just beware tickets are VERY hard to come by. Good Luck!

Where in Ct. are you? I live in Ct and would be happy to help if I could. basically...you just have to wait for the schedule...get the on sale date..and be ready to dial or log on to try and get tickets....if that fails...you will have to pay top dollar through a scalper..or ticket broker...I know, they are the same thing!
Good luck...and stay tuned to this site come ticket time...there are always some of us with extras...

Thank you all so much for all your replies! So much help and greatly appreciated. Kitty, we are in a little 'burb just north of Hartford. I will have to learn how to get on-line just as tickets go on sale as that is something I have never done! I would actually like to go see Jimmy Buffet and I know my husband is a bit of a fan and had already given his blessing on the marriage, but alas I'll have to break the news to both of them that he is already quite taken!! LOL! Actually my daughter knows that. She is friends with someone who knows Jimmy Buffet from a marina where they keep a boat (I think JB keeps his at this same marina, or something like that). Anyway, she knows he is happily married, but she still dreams...... I had a few of those kind of crushes when I was her age, so I guess I can say I understand.

As far as her seeing this, unless the site has her friends on the other end (instant messaging, etc.) she is unlikely to surf much. She has actually asked me to help her find stuff when surfing the web is required. Happened today when she asked me to buy her a Dave Matthews Band tix (she paid me back, but had to pay with PayPal of which I am the owner!). I don't think she will discover my secret. If she does, then she will have to pretend not to know and she will have to be very good for the next 6 months, so I won't mind!!!!!!

Again thanks so much for all the great advise! Any help in how to get on line at the right moment, assuming there are tricks to that trade, would be greatly appreciated! Thanks to all.

The only bit of advice I have is sign up atParrot Republic and they will e-mail you the info with updates when they come out also one of the
many sites to outfit the compleate parrothead road trip everything
from shirts, hats, grass skirts and many other supplies we find
amusing/necessary.
Ps not a dumb question at all you rock.
the other thing is I do not know how close you live to the venue
that you are trying to get tickets for but I would try a two headed
attack, one the net online ticket buying thing, the other is
find out where the farthest physical location that sells tix is
and get in line early if you score with both methods than you too
can sell your extra tix on the exchange if only one method is
productive well you still have your tix.

Wow, I am so glad I found this place. have registered with a couple of newletters. I like the discussion. I am learnig a lot about JB (read his timeline history, etc.. Sounds like my kind of performer. Couldn't help remembering when I was an Army nurse just post Vietnam and was stationed at Ft. Jackson, SC. JB was playing at some rinky dink little honkytonk. I remember that I had heard the Margaritaville song and liked it. My boyfriend at the time really wanted to go to the concert but could not get tix and since I was a bit slow on the get on the bandwagon, I did not push. Sounds like I missed a great opportunity.

Last dumb question. I am new to avatars. There are places you can buy them or get them for free. You guys have such great ones. Are they worth paying for, and if so, where do I go to get one/some; also if there are good free ones, where do you suggest? My search did not bring up much and the one link I slightly like must have been too big and is not showing up.

Thanks for saying I am kool, I neeeded to hear that. Both my kids, plus my husband, dog, bird and fish all think I am a total lost cause!

Take care!

many time you can right click on an avatar, click on properties and copy and paste the address. That will often lead you to many other avatars. They are free!!!! or if you see a picture you like while surfing you can do the same cut and paste gig. Welcome aboard, you were to date the easiest non-buffett phan to turn. :D :D
