Video Margaritaville
I couldn't sleep last night, and while laying there doing nothing I started thinking about how cool a Video Margaritaville TV channel would be! Make it a "premium channel" where you subscribe for $10 a month, and program it loosely like Radio Margaritaville. I mean come on, that started out as a crazy idea too, and look at it now!
Think of the library of video footage the Buffett empire must have in the can from the past 30 years! Programming could include a "Storytellers" type of segment with footage from benefit shows, Peets birthday show, and similar events where he goes back to his "roots" and talks almost as much as he sings. They could air concert replays, and live concerts. (Ok this is major wishful thinking in my pre-dream state of mind!) They could run Austin City limits, Live By The Bay, variety show appearances, Today and Tonight Show footage, SNL appearances. They could show the videos from Tales From Margaritavision and the others that didn't make it on there. They could have a Parrot Head segment highlighting the fans, the tailgating, the audiences, and personal "shrines" that people would be willing to let camera crews in their house to film. And that's all just Jimmy! Throw in videos from Club Trini, The Coral Reefers' other individual efforts, Jerry Jeff, Bob Marley, Sunny Jim, nation-wide Buffett cover artists, etc etc, and you've got yourself a station!
Advertisers like Corona, Dukos Boats, tropical apparel, and party stores would pay and thrive with the target audience!
A girl can dream, can't she?

Where do I subscribe?? that would be AWESOME!!!!
Although most of us would probably lose touch of the world if that was available 24/7.....we wouldn't leave our homes, lose our jobs, have our margaritas and other essentials delivered, TV's in every room.....it would be crazy!!! I love it! That would be very cool.....
If nothing else, a weekly program featuring Jimmy's footage of any type would be nice on any given network....we parrotheads need to resolve our withdrawel issues, seems like a perfect idea!

I didn't consider that, but you're right - I wouldn't be able to tear myself away, and I would become an instant couch potato! There's always a hitch to the best laid plans!finsupnorth wrote:Although most of us would probably lose touch of the world if that was available 24/7.....we wouldn't leave our homes, lose our jobs, have our margaritas and other essentials delivered, TV's in every room.....it would be crazy!!!

Not to sound anti-Jimmy, but if there is a buck in it, he'll probably do it. And yes like the good little lemming I will be one of the first to sign up and go over the cliff

Coleman, How about another perk for those premium or subscription folks could be a chance to get a "first look" at concert tix like DMB. Please follow thru on that one too if possible... Looking forward to it!Coleman wrote:I love seeing this discussion. This has been on the drawing boards for some time but other stuff got in the way and the technology wasn't quite ready. I just picked $10 per month based on "premium" movie channels like HBO, Showtime, etc for my DirecTV. There are other packages to subscribe to for $5 per month which may be sufficient, and make live concerts reasonably priced Pay Per View!
More brainstorming on programming Video Margaritaville could offer:
A Rehearsals program with casual footage like Knees of My Heart and the Tiki Bar is Open rehearsal from MiniMatinee1.
Movies that Jimmy appeared in, his music appeared in, or just Buffett-esque like Hook, Rancho Deluxe, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, FM, Donovan's Reef, etc.
An Osbourne's-like "The Buffetts" show?
Performances from all of the various Margaritavilles and CBiP's.
Coleman, where do I apply for the Assistant to the Program Director position?
