I received my avatar image via an email titled "Best Photos of 2003". I googled on Kurt Jones and found his website, including the truth about the picture, and how to order prints of the above undoctored photo:

It's an awesome shot nonetheless!

My husband says, "That's not a shark!" I then read the truth and said, "Well, if I was that guy, I would sure be getting the he** out of the water!!!!"

Hey ETPH didn't Willie Nelson say that first? There's alot more old drunks than there are old doctors so I guess I'll have another round.
I belong in the past, I was not meant to last, and I hope I get there one day!

I can understand why people would believe it's a shark... it's an awful big dolphin!!!
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

I was flying an ultralight over Longboat Key in Florida last Summer. Sharks and dolphins look very much the same from the air. How you tell the difference is dolphin tails go up and down and shark tails go side to side.
Of course the year before I was swimming in the ocean and saw a dorsal fin break the surface at eye level.

Try and surf in Montery bay with the Basking sharks, they get up to 30 feet
and look scarry as an exwife in a bad dream. But they only eat algea
they have a bulldozer size mouth and you will ruin the ocean for swiming
the first time you see one. but prior to even looking at the link
thats flipper but I am glad I did not have to make that call while in the water
