I grew up with a fake one
my 1st Christmas with my (wife to be @ the time) we marched off into the woods, dug up a live tree & planted it in a big bucket,
then planted it out front.
When my daughter was born we bought a live tree & planted it also so we could watch her & it grow.
For several years after that we had live (dead) trees
Last year we got a great deal on a fake one,
I'll be taking it out of the box soon.
With cats, keet, fire hazard, watering, needles, etc..
fake is better (for the now) I guess

Got me too!
Had fake when I was a kid then went to real. Have had real for as long as I can remember.
Gotta admit, those new fake ones look real nice, you can hardly tell and they got the lights in em too. Next year we'll have 15' catherdral ceilings in the living room...that trees gotta be real, a good fake one would cost $700-$800! :o

Until I was about thirteen we always had real. I can remember once hiking with my mother not that many blocks - maybe quarter mile - up to the highway to buy a tree, and then the two of us gamely carrying it back home. It's funny, except for that one time, I have no idea where the other trees came from. They just kind of materialized. :o

When my little sister developed allergies, we started having fake ones. After marriage we've had an assortment of real and fake. I have allergies, too, but sometimes I have a real one anyway. No dogs or cats to compound the allergies and asthma. We have this real cool snow machine that recircles styrofoam "snow" up through a tube, and then pours it back over the tree like snow. A friend's daughter, who is now 26, was saying to me yesterday that when she was a kid that was always the coolest tree she ever saw. :)

Hubby is no longer into Christmas, and he kind of resents me doing all this Christmas decorating when the rest of the house is more or less a mess. The past couple of years I am embarrassed to say we have had this two foot already decorated, already lighted tree that I bought. But this year I am thinking of hauling out one of the fake trees, and putting up the snow machine. :wench:

Oh, Cubbie, I never actually saw one of them in person! It was silver? Was it already decorated?

I lived in a rural area growing up and we would always go to a local tree farm for our tree. Lots of great memories. :D My wife and I were originally planning to get a real tree. Then we got to home depot and noticed fake trees with the lights already on the tree! Combine that with the lack of vacuuming needles, watering, etc. and we were sold. We just put it up last night and it looks great! I do miss the "feel" and smell of a real one but we'll get that when we visit family on Christmas Day.

I always have an artificial tree because I have animals and I'm afraid of fires and whatnot. Plus they are just easier to deal with....

Although I do absolutely lvoe the smell of pine -- I just get a nice pine candle to take care of that.

Why we don't have a real tree

http://www.fire.gov/newsletter/summer20 ... 402web.avi

If you still want a live tree you might want to look at this

http://www.robreid.com/info/fireproofing.html

I don't know if this actually works but it looks good

Even though the holiday itself seems to be getting more fake and phony each year, our tree is real.
