S. Goodman New Year's Eve Replay on RM

Post by conched »

For those of you who are Steve Goodman fans, there is a concert replay on tonight at 8 Eastern. It is a show from December 31, 1977. It is super.

RM is playing the Millenium Concert replay now.

Goodman Replay

Post by Goodman »

Thanks guys I knew I was supposed to be somewhere tonite. :-)

Seriously, Goodman was a great performer/songwriter and influence on JB. When you look at all the tunes that JB does that have SG on them you realize why I pay tribute to Steve on this site.

Unfortunately I can't catch the show tonite. Will someone create a setlist and post it or send it my way?

Best to all of my fellow Parrotheads and see ya next year.
I know Jimmy Buffett, Jimmy Buffett is a friend of mine. Son, you're no Jimmy Buffett!

I'd also be interested in seeing the setlist since I cannot listen tonight.

And for those of you uninitiated, listening to Steve Goodman live is to begin to understand why so many of us are still so passionate for Steve and his music, and why we still muss him so much. i was fortunate to see him live about 6 or 7 times, first in Grinnell, Iowa, in college, and then throughout the Chicago area-he was a real treasure.

As I have said here before, I so appreciate that Jimmy still honors Steve and that Jimmy always plays a Goodman song in Chicago.

Happy New Year everyone!

Here you go...probably a few mistakes!

Steve Goodman from December 31, 1977

1. Video Tape
2. The Twentieth Century Is Almost Over (Calendar Song)
3. (For Atlanta) There's No Business Like Show Business
4. Walking in the Winter Wonderland (Learned by accident at ACL, someone requested it, played at Armadillo Headquarters)
5. Chicago, hometown, lived here all my life (Very nice...Now play some gd songs)
6. Somebody Else's Troubles
Some Island Songs...two island songs
7. Banana Republics (Just an awesome live version)
From Manhattan Island a different island song I'll come up with Islet of Langerhans too LOL)
8. Men Who Love Women Who Love Men
9. Can't Go Back
Gonna be joined by a guest after the next one
10. This Hotel Room
11. Sixteen Tons (Merle Travis song)
Welcome Jethro Burns
12. The Dutchman (with Jethro on mandoline)
They played this one on The Gong Show...only proof is the check for it
13. Don't Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes
14. Lincoln Park Pirates
Thank XRT on the radio
15. Band song...no lyrics. I was not familiar with the tune. I guess Tico Tico
One more key of E
16. Spoon River (written by Mike Smith)
17. (Written in 1970) City of New Orleans (harmonica solo) (feature guitar) (feature trumpet)

Steve Huntington says he didn't play the show in its entirity...it was from the club Earl of Old Town and had been replayed on WXRT radio.
