what should i do...

Post by pirateunder40 »

OK, Heres the deal. My best friend of five years has been in the marines for the past 3 years. He is currently stationed in Hawaii, and i thought that it is the tiome to go vistit him. So I decided to schedule my trip the week that Jimmy was playing there. So I got plane tickets and concerts tickets (4 extra as well) and waht happens, yesterday he called and said that he was not going to be there at all when I got there. He has to go do training on another island for a month. He has offered me his house and car and said to still go. What should I do!? I cant return the plane ticket or the concert tickets. I cant afford a hotel and I dont think that it would be right for me to go there without him being there. He is a good friend and all but, staying on a marine base alone for a week, and to top it all off I have never been to Hawaii and have no idea where anything is. Anyone here have any advise. I have untill 9:00pm today to make a decision. Thanks :(

he knew that i was comming and it really isnt his fault that he won't be there. Protecting the country is a 24/7 job. But i do agree that he wouldnt mind

Your heart was in the right place from the beginning and he knows that....too bad things didn't work out to see him, but things happen for a reason....this may have been your reason to go to a great concert! He would want you to have fun if he was a true friend, otherwise he wouldn't have offered.... Have a great time!

GO!!!

If he was not genuine about you staying there on your own, he would not have offered!

And, I travel on my own from Australia to the USA each year - of course I am seeing friends, but I didnt the first couple of times - speaking from experience, you will be fine and have a GREAT time!!!!

If he has already offered you the use of his house, it would be crazy to throw away the money that you spent on plane and concert tickets.
Why not see if you can find a local friend that is willing to pay for airfare to go with you? I mean, they get to stay for free. That's a pretty nice deal if'n you ask me.
Come to think of it, I'm in NJ too!

Staying on base isn't that bad anyway. Just watch the drinking - they do take seriously (not that they shouldn't!) and aren't very tolerant for the most part (at least that's true with the Navy - I am sure it's the same with all the armed forces.) But you will need a pass from him and proper id, etc.

And I agree with everyone else - GO and have fun for all of us who are stuck here. 8)

GO!! I'm sure your friend would want you to have a good time. Waikiki, Honolulu and Oahu for that matter are easy to find your way around. Come to Dukes Canoe Club in the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach before the show - you will meet lots of other Parrotheads there.

I am traveling from NJ to Maui and staying with friends and then going over to Oahu for the concert on Wednesday. The friends are leaving Thursday for a trip to the mainland and I am going over to explore the Big Island for a few days. Unfortunately we learned about Jimmy's Maui show too late to change our plans. My friends have been living on Maui for 6 years and can't belive they are missing Jimmy's first Maui concert. Hopefully there will be more Hawaii concerts for them in the future.

I join everyone else in saying GO! We were in Oahu, Hawaii and Maui a couple of months ago and I would go back in a hot second, even if I had to go by myself (which is OK with me too). Have a GREAT time!
