Buffett Vinyl

Post by Mr. Key West »

I was at the old stuff shop looking for old records and found a stack of 16 Buffett albums. All the good stuff. The man wanted $50 for all of them. I was wondering if that is a good price or what I should be offering to pay for them. One of the albums was Before the Salt. I never heard of it and was also wondering if any of you all have heard of it and know anything about it. Thanks a bunch!

If they're in good shape, buy 'em. I would.
Look I'm a little slow today, I just switched to Sanka, so have a heart.

$3 a piece sounds pretty reasonable to me.

The Before the Salt LP, is roughly the same as the Before the Beach CD (and many incarnations that have come since). It's basically a complilation of his first two albums (Down to Earth and High Cumberland Jubilee).

I think these days, Down to Earth is the only LP is the only one to fetch a significant premium (with the exception of some rarities). Once upon a time, High Cumberland Jubilee and Rancho Deluxe used to go for $25-$50, but I think that's dropped significantly since they've come out on CD. I think before the CD versions, Before the Salt used to go for $15-20, but I think that also has dropped significantly. Used copies of the regular albums have always been fairly easy to find for under $5 in average condition. But if you're looking to buy them, I think $50 for 16 albums is pretty reasonable.

16 for $50? I’d say it’s worth it. That’s nearly all of them. Keep in mind there’s lots of good eye candy that comes with Jimmy’s records that don’t come with the CDs.

The CDs should have had all of that, but no.
