Avatars: a little help please
How do I get an avatar to come up along with my posts? I have it on my computer, not linked from a website. I'm so computer illiterate.

Tell ya what... I'm really, really tired right now, so I can't find the energy to explain it at the moment. If you want, e-mail me your picture and I'll resize it for ya.Ilph wrote:Thanks for the link. Now can anyone help me resize this bugger? It's frustrating me.

Awww... Aren't you the sweetest. :D
Ilph,
Here's sumthin' I wrote a while back that can help you (and whoever else wants to know) with regards to putting images in your posts. I'll write up the image resizing thing later on.
Here's how to put a picture in one of your posts... Ready?
PS - Keep in mind that this is only for a Windows based system. I know nothing about Mac's.

| blue or this whole thing won't work ***HINT*** The thing you want to highlight will start with http:// 8) Once it turns blue release the mouse button and once again position your cursor over the address 9) Now, RIGHT click over the highlighted area. Another grey box will open. LEFT click on the word "Copy" 10) Now, go to BuffettNews and start writing a post. In the post where you'd like to put your image look up at the buttons above the box that you're typing in. Click the "Img" button twice. When you do that you'll see sumthin' that looks like this: Put your cursor in the middle like this: . Now, with your cursor in the middle of those tags, RIGHT click and select the "Paste" 11) Click preview and see if your picture works... Yay!! |

I didn't get an e-mail from you. If you already sent it you may want to check the address and send it again...Ilph wrote:They're on their way. Thanks, you're the best! GO PATS!!!!
of course the Best way is to right click on an image, choose save as, save it to your computer,
upload it to your web host so NOW the URL address looks something like this:
http://www.myInternetProvider/myUsernam ... icture.jpg
as opposed to this:
http://www.SomeoneElsesBandwidth.com/us ... icture.jpg
I'm guilty of this too but if you have the resources to host the picture it helps keep things better on the net. I have seen instances where webmasters search for people using their images & replacing it with something nasty while keeping the same name, therefore- until the person realizes what happened a nasty image is showing instead of what they thought... just an fyi / food for thought
another cool fyi!!
Most ISP's (internet service providers) give you 5 or 10 megabytes of space to make a homepage / store files, etc..
Go to your ISP's home page & search for something about Personal WebSpace, many people have this & don't realize it
for more info ask here or PM me

If all you're doing is using the image to make a silly point in a BN post then I think it's a bit much to go through the process of hosting the image on your own dedicated web space, but I totally agree if you are going to be using the image in high traffic area then by all means you should not just link to someone else's site.
I agree with you 100% St. S
I just thought I'd share on how things work. I really have seen explicit pictures for avatars, etc where the webmaster searched their own url+picture & replaced it when they found out people where using it.
Or other times I've seen pictures replaced with nasty messages
But you are right it is a lot of trouble & in one time instances I have googled pictures, etc & "used" them too
