Chicago is a great city, despite the snow, and the unbearable humidity in the summer, and we don't have earthquakes! I go out to LA to visit relatives each year and love visiting, but I would really miss the change of seasons that we have.

there are lots of us here from all over the city-I am in Skokie and grew up in Evanston--if I can answer any questions, feel free to PM me.

Great restaurants, great people, and 3 Buffett concerts a year (2 at Tinley Park and 1 at Alpine).

wSGHs!

Unless you have a really good reason, moving from CA to IL seems frivolous!

ejr put a positive spin on it with the 3 Buffett shows, but still... CA gets a couple, plus a couple Vegas!

IL = changing seasons = snow, cold, rain, humidity, heat, and one or two nice days every month! :P ; losing sports teams ; lotsa flat land; terrible traffic

CA = ocean beaches, year-round warmth, fantastic scenery, swimming pools, movie stars, winning sports teams

Tough choice!

Yes, the move is a necessity. I got a job offer out there that is too good to pass up. Housing prices are so high out here..I'll have much better quality of life back there than here in So. Cal.

The good news is my boss will be out here so I will be back in L.A. at least 4 or 5 times a year. I'll have to plan the trips around the Irvine shows!!

I'm looking forward to a change of pace. Right now I live in Hollywood and am tired of it. A change of scenery should do me some good!

Ok then... in that case... Welcome to the Windy City!

My suburban roots are closer to that of cheeseheads than the City, so I can't help you out too much downtown except for the obvious tourist attractions.

Do you know where you'll be residing yet? City limits, or suburbs?

I want the suburbs.....somewhere where I can the train in. I'll be working on Michigan Ave...I'm told in a great location.

I plan on getting lost quite a bit a first.

I am staying in the Oakwood complex downtown until I find something to buy....

Tagriffith, welcome to Chicago............ There are many great places to live inside and outside the city, I'd look into the Northwest Suburbs if I was in the position to move.

Chicago is the greatest city in the world to live in, don't listen to the b*tchers an moaners. If you don't want to live in the city, there are numorous communities you can live in and commute on the CTA, MTA or RTA. I wish I was you instead of stuck in I-OHHH-way

Great museums, great restaurants, great regional theater, great architecture, and lots more. Don't let the others get you down-the winter is getting to all of us, but this too shall pass.

Transportation into the city is available from most suburbs and will save you tons on parking. depends on what you are looking for in determining what community to live in. Housing is definitely less than the LA area, but lots of areas are getting pretty pricey.

Anyway, welcome, in advance, though I guess you represent one more person to battle with in trying to get tickets!

Right on Cubbie and ejr!!! Chicago is AWESOME!!! I love it and don't regret for one minute moving here! I live in the city, almost downtown. I work one block off the Magnificent Mile and have friends that live in all the good neighborhoods...Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Bucktown, Wrigleyville, Old Town, Wicker Park... I live in the River West/Ukranian Village neighborhood. I would be more than happy to share any insight I can with you. If you're looking for a place in the city, I suggest starting here:

Please feel free to pm me with any questions! :D Welcome!!!

(And seriously, don't listen to the dissenters... Chicago in the summer is one of the best places on earth! After your first Cubs game, walk along the lakeshore, Taste of Chicago (amonst all the other sh*tloads of festivals all summer long) you'll know why I say this!!! )

Oh, and after your first Buffett show at Alpine Valley (Wis.), you'll forget all about Irvine shows!!! j/k

Welcome Chicago is a great city except for the cold! My wife and I both work in the city and love the southwest burbs take the train into work do not drive, you get more for your money out south (you will be amazed). Do not go for that cub addiction its a terrible habit, Buffett shows are outstanding (go figure) and the food is the best anywhere! Any questions just Chicago people are very friendly!

Southwest burbs are a great place to go. Heck--thats where Buffett has his 2 shows out here, and plus---you have very easy access to the interstates.
