Finding a flight

Post by Ilph »

I'm going down to Destin, Fl for a few days this summer and wondered if anyone knew of a place that had cheap plane tickets. I've checked Orbitz, Expedia and Cheaptickets.com, I was just wondering if anything else out there was worth checking out. thanks.

Not sure where Southwest flies into in that part of Florida, but their flights don't show up on Orbitz, etc.

Not sure about the flights, but Destin is a very nice place, I went there on Spring Break 3 years ago. Even with all the young kids it was still loads of fun!

Thanks for the help, guys. I'm heading down there for my friend's wedding, so even if there are college kids down there, we're only a few years older than them, so it shouldn't bother us too much. Looks like it's going to be a nice 12 hour drive, though. Thank God for a CD player in the car.

12 hours to a wedding? that's nothing.... just ask PHAW and HappyShark. :P (they drove about 20 hours each way, in one weekend, to get to JeepGirl and RedWineMaker's wedding. :o )

I've used Hotwire quite a bit.... The catch is that you put in the day you want to leave and come back and that's it. It finds a flight for you (usually cheaper than anywhere else) and then you can book it...
The catch: You don't pick the airline or the time of your flight and you don't find out till after you've booked it. So, you may be leaving at 5 in the morning or 11 at night and the same thing coming back. But if you are flexible on when you want to go, it's almost certainly going to be the cheapest way to get there....

southwest has a few non-stop midway - FLL fllights daily and few more that require plane changes or make additional stops...

the cheapest fares on southwest are found on their website.

Sometimes you can get the same flights offered on Orbitz, Travelocity, Expedia, etc... from the airlines' own websites. I was able to buy a flight to Denver for the same price offered on CheapTickets, but without the fee for the CheapTickets service. :D

I think you might want to cheak a map before flying into there. Ft. Liquordale is nowhere near Destin! In fact, the closest airpot that Southwest flies to is New Orleans-which is 247 miles away. Below is a link to the other nearby airpots if you want to try to fly on a different airline. By the way, for those who don't know, Priceline has now started showing prices, times, and flight information; they will still let you name your own price if you want to. Here's the link:

llph, when I said that about checking a map in my previous post, I didn't mean to sound like a smart ass! It's just that of all the airpots Albatross listed, FLL is the fartherest one from Destin, and I was just a little shocked to see you pick that one. Nothing personal.

By the way, I like the new name too.

Gypsy, it's okay. I just realized that myself. For some reason I thought "Ft. Liquordale" was Panama City. So many boozy locations in Floriday, they all start to blend together. No offense taken.

A mother and her son were flying Southwest Airlines from Kansas City to Chicago.
The son (who had been looking out the window) turned to his mother and asked, "If big dogs have baby dogs and big cats have baby cats, why don't big planes have baby planes?"

The mother (who couldn't think of an answer) told her son to ask the stewardess.

So the boy asked the stewardess, "If big dogs have baby dogs and big cats have baby cats, why don't big planes have baby planes?"

The stewardess responded, "Did your mother tell you to ask me?"

The boy said, "Yes she did."

"Well, then, tell your mother that there are no baby planes because Southwest always pulls out on time. Have your mother explain that to you!
