This album isn't that bad. It's certainly not as bad as some of the albums that proceded it (like the horrible "Last Mango in Paris"). It's sort of picks up where "One Particular Harbour" left off. There's nothing electronic about it except maybe some of the keyboards, but they still sound good.
The album does have a lively, jazzy edge to it that's kind of nice. "Gravity Storm" awakens the soul, and "That's My Story", Why the Things We Do", and "Off to See the Lizard" feature the always great Caribbean sound. Sounds good loud.

This is probably the most diverse album Jimmy has released since "Sportcoat". It sounds like no other Buffett album and that is maybe what makes it sooo goooood. Lyrically, it is...well, I just don't know the word for it and I'm not sure one exists. Musically, it is more mainstream and there's nothing wrong with that. "Carnival World" is a good interpretive song of those material things in life. Every song has its perfect place for being played..."Take Another Road" is one of the best songs for driving backroads, much like James Taylor's "Country Road". "That's My Story and I'm Stickin' To It", "Off to See the Lizard", and "Mermaid in the Night" are all great "tongue-in-cheek" tunes and I love listening to "Why The Things We Do" while eating breakfast on the deck as the sun comes up. "Gravity Storm" has a jazz sound to it that reminds me of Phil Collins' "Face Value". You'll get the feeling that you're on a private flight with Jimmy in the Hemisphere Dancer when you listen to "Strange Bird" and who can't listen to "I Wish Lunch Would Last Forever" at an annual "Buffett Bash Pre-concert Cookout"? "The Pascagoula Run" is wild ride down the gulf coast that brings back memories of "Ragtop Day". "Changing Channels" seems like it was written to heal broken marriages.
Several songs from "Off to See the Lizard" can be found as titles in the book "Tales From Margaritaville", which came out around the same time as the "Lizard" album, but there are few, if any, similarities between the two entities.
I'm not going to review the book. I will simply say--if you haven't read it, you need to.
score for Lizard: 5 of 5 coronas
score for the book: same as above

I enjoy this CD, especially the way it intertwines with the stories in "Tales from margaritaville", many of the songs tell similar if not the same story as chapters from this book, and loosely mention the characters. Makes it all that much more interesting to listen to.... Jimmy does it again.
Too much tequilla or not quite enough...

About ten years ago, a friend gave me a tape with SYKBH on one side and Off To See the Lizard on the other. I was soon a parrot head and Off to See the Lizard was my favorite CD for several years (until I saw the light of A1A) It still remains one of my favorites. I really like every song on the album (I'm 35, I still say album sometimes). "I Wish Lunch..." is my favorite for this album but sing along with and love them all.
It amazes me when I read reviews about jimmy. One person will say a certain album s***s, then another person will say it is great. Some of Jimmys albums I like right away and others I have to listen to them a couple of times. I was hooked on Off To See The Lizard right away. Great album. My wife and friends think I listen to Jimmy too much, but you know what, what a great way to waste your time. Get this album, youll love it.
