To me this album is amazing! Yes it has an 80's production quality to it, but writing wise it's really fun and full of energy. Being the first album with the then "new" Coral Reefer Band, it displays some of the talent and song writing skills that exist between Jimmy, Roger Guth, and Peter Mayer. "Lizard" has no bad songs on it, and the connection between Tales From Margaritaville and the album is awesome! I just hope that Jimmy's next release follows along the same lines with the upcoming release of a "Salty Piece of Land" and hopefully an accompanied album with references to the book!

Awesome Album! Seems like it has a lot of reggae/caribbean influence. "Why The Things We Do" and "Gravity Storm" are my favorites. "Pascagoula Run" is another great party song evoking memories of road trips through the Southeast. The horns on the album are jammin'. Wish I hadn't waited so long to get this CD. It is definitely like no other, and that's a good thing.

I think this album has aged well and Take Another Road fits in quite well on Meet Me In Margaritaville. It's amazing, though, that this album is by the same person who did Floridays and Hot Water before this one. Those two albums are much more organic in sound - acoustic guitars, steel drums, horns, rhythms, etc... On this album, the drive of the guitars is really squashed in favour of the more technical click track drum sound and keyboard garbage that made music in the 1980s so bad. Distinct? Yes. Great? Not when compared to A1A. As horrible as Last Mango In Paris? Never! No album is! It's just not what one would expect from Jimmy Buffett, and that is a pretty good reason to listen to this record. The other good reason is the songwriting is fantastic, the performance is fantastic, it has a lot of energy and it's got a bright feel to it. And if you listen to the same albums all the time, it's time for a change. Play this record.
