Camping at Cinnamon Bay on St. John

We're thinking about camping at Cinnamon Bay for a month in May or June. Anyone done that?

We have lots of questions........was it a hassle getting all your camping gear there on the plane and over to St. John from St. Thomas? Is there some shade at the campsites where you put up your own tent......the website only shows the tents that Cinnamon Bay rents. Is there a place to hang hammocks at the campsites? Are other campers cool? Is it far or a hassle to get to a grocery store? A girl must have her morning cup of java........can I rent a stove or do they provide a firepit at the campsites? Think it's possible to UPS your gear? Did you get to pick your favorite campsite when you arrived or was it possible to move to the perfect one after it was vacated?

How did you get around? Are there buses that stop at various beaches? Or, if you took a cab to some remote beach for an afternoon, how did you get back? Or did you rent a car?

Inquiring minds need to know! Thanks in advance for your insights!

Hey Pepe,

those are a few good questions alright
It's been a little while since I was there, but the memory was clear (imagine that!)
The trek to St. John is started from St. Thomas' Red Hook Harbor via ferryboat.
We bus taxi'd over to both Trunk and Cinammon Bay. All very close, but all very hands on. We'd packed our own snorkeling gear for each day trip. I'd recommend using their tent accomodations, unless you're an experienced backpacker. There were much fewer bare sites. It was June when I was there, and the place was pretty full with campers. I saw most all the amenities you asked about, including a nice little restaurant ( I think it was the Tree Lizard). As I recall, most all of this was within U.S. Park Service lands, as most the island is within, so maybe there's more info to find at their websites. This is definitely a tropical setting, many lizards, bugs, "bush baby" monkeys in the trees. Camping will be a wild adventure!! Now I wanna go back! :D
