ok...here goes. myself and two friends are going to go to gulf shores for spring break (march 8th through the 14th). mostly this decision was based on going over to orange beach for some of the stars events. however, lately my friends have been worried that since stars doesn't start till thursday and we will be getting there the saturday before, that there will not be much to do (and by this i mean nightlife and beach activities mostly). the condo we reserved (although we can change it) is 1.5 miles west of highway 59 on the beach side. what is the party scene like for three college guys looking to have a good time here? thanks for any advide and sorry for the long post.

well.....
if youre staying west of hwy. 59, you need to go EAST of 59 to see anything worth doing. the best bars include The Pink Pony Pub, Live Bait, and The Flora-Bama. You MUST eat at the
gulf shores steamer, right off of 59, about 20 seconds from the beach. its hidden behind a big souvie store with a shark as the entrance. get the bucket of dungeness crabs and royal red shrimp.
not to mention that the beach is 600% prettier on the eastern side of 59.
other good restaurants are Zeke's, Franco's, and the Perdido Pass Restaurant.

Will Lulu's be open by then? That's a must-do for Gulf Shores!!!!!!!! Later addition: Lulu's will be open Feb. 17...I checked her web site (which is under construction). Should be a VERY cool place to be.

You might the the
Castaways. We used to stay there every year during the Shrimp Festival in October. I preface this by saying I have not stayed there in over 12 years. It used to be one of the more reasonable places close to the boardwalk.
The two absolute musts are the Pink Pony & Flora Bama. A few other places to eat that have not mentioned are Coconut Willies, Bayside Grill, Mikee's Seafood, and
the Original Oyster House
Mikees used to be pretty good food for super cheap. Also try the Barefoot Bar & the Spot on the boardwalk.
Have fun

Which condo are you planning on staying at? I prefer to be about as far west from 59 as I could possibly get. Much quieter and those damn cops are not out there as much. Not that I would expect any illegal activity to go on with you. Just beware of the policemen. For a small town there a several. As far as the night life. Good Luck. There are several bars immediately east of 59 so you should be within walking distance. Not sure how hopping it will be on Spring Break though.

Was gonna jump at the chance to tell ya Gulf Shores Steamer..but somebody beat me to it.
May not look like much outside (its behind the building with the giant concrete shark close to the intersection) but the food is GREAT!
probably not much else open-check out the deals at the Riveria Center mall (you'll pass it on the left a coupla miles before '59 ends. good buys on shoes/clothes/etc.
If you go through Foley, Wave at the homies-the planner/codes enforcement cutie is a friend of mine
Water will be 'interesting' too. I'd consider drinking heavily before accepting a dare to dive in.

That is no kidding on the water temperature. I was there once in the beginning of May thinking it would be semi decent, wrong. It was cold enough that some parts of me regret it just a little bit. Somewhere on here there is a water temperature guide. Maybe on weather.com or somewhere like that. Just be prepared.

hey, thank you all for the advice...and as for the water being cold i'm not much of a swimmer anyways (deep sea fishing however is another story).
i'll let you all know how it goes.

I would be sure to make a trip to the FloraBama...it's local history....the kind you can't read about....and maybe on one of your hungover days take a drive to the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola home of the Blue Angels, and grab a pint in McGuires also in Pensacola
