Margaritaville-Montego Bay

Post by Beach Bob »

Going on my honeymoon in a few months and we are going to some island hopping in the caribbean. Has anyone been to Margaritaville- Montego Bay? How is it? How does it compare to the others in Jamaica?

Cool roottop dining overlooking the bay. Excellent drinks. I think there was a water slide and a hot tub up on the roof, but my memory is a little fuzzy. Don't miss it though, you'll love it!

3 story water slide, bring your swimware since you can jump right in the ocean from the patio...they have water trampolines out there as well...its a big place, the store is rather small. Menu is similar to most M'villes...there are always taxis out front to take you wherever...have a good time

Thanks for the feedback! How does it compare to Ocho Rios and Negril? Is it bigger or smaller? Which one would you suggest visiting, if you had one to go to?

Haven't been to either one. But don't miss walking up Dunn's river falls if you haven't before. Spectacular!

Im headed to Jamaica on March 10th. Im going to stay in RUNAWABAY. The margaritaville in Ocho Rios is the largest. There are a lot of pics of each margaritaville on Margaritaville.com. Have you been to the one in Ocho Rios?

We have only been to the one in Montego Bay, it was excellent.
Don't forget about the one inside the airport (save that for when you get to the airport 3 hours early).

If it is your first time there, remember this phrase -

Enjoy!

We were there right before Jimmy took it over,it was really cool. Wasn't too impressed with Montego Bay,that is a story in its self. We did the Dunns Falls, that is a must.

On the way to Bonaire last year we had to change planes in Montego Bay. Too bad we had to do the O J Simpson sprint thru the airport...didnt even get a chance to get a shirt. :x BTW...the airport in Montego Bay just plain sux.

Sorry you missed it, the airport there is not the best but with the addition of the Margaritaville, it got a little better. :D
There is a small bar on the lower level, but go upstairs and there is a full size restaurant.

If only there for 1.5 days, then go to whichever one is closest to your hotel. The Ocho Rios and Negril are about 1.5 - 2 hours from Montego Bay in opposite directions. If staying in Mo bay, it is a no brainer to go to that one.

We were also in MoBay last May. We loved the Margaritaville in the airport and in MoBay. We almost missed our flight b/c we were hanging out in the airport restaurant too long.
As for the MoBay restaurant, it was great fun. The waterslide was SO much fun. The trampolines were great. We went once on an "off" night, and once during the day, so there was no music, but a decent crowd. It's also a beautiful setting. Only downside was we had to pay $50 roundtrip taxi to get to and from our hotel (near Rose Hall). But worth the money. I can't speak to any other Margaritaville. We also didn't love MoBay, but we did love Jamaica.

Have a great trip - we sure did!

Went to Negril Margaritaville on my honeymoon last year. Absolutely hated it. It was the worst experience of my life. Had to listen to hard core rap the whole time, as well as a 3 minute loop of guest footage on the tvs. Extremely disappointed.

My only explanation I can come up with was it was the Jamaican independence celebration.

Those are all the Reasons that I chose Runaway bay. I heard its the quietest and least touristy. Any truth?

My wife and I, and our friends, went with a bartender at our resort to M'ville in Ocho Rios. The bartender convinced us that we needed to go on the night that the locals went, as opposed to a "tourist night." The place itself was great, but as was mentioned about M'Ville Negril, it was like being at a hard-core rap club. It just wasn't my cup of tea. I think I really would've loved the place had I gone with a bunch of other tourists and the music been different. In the club, I was offered "coke and smoke," and as we were leaving we were hounded by people wanting our wristbands so they could get in for free. One guy even grabbed me and demanded my wristband. It got to the point that our wives were pretty scared. I finally had to tell the guys to leave us alone. The people, like most of the ones we encountered off the resort, were just very pushy.
Today is the tomorrow you spent yesterday worrying about. Was it worth it?

Margaritaville Jamaica

Post by Pyr8swyfNC »

Hi - Just wanted to pass along our experience in Jamiaca - Last January, 2003, my husband and I got a really sweet airfare from Charlotte to Jamaica for a quick weekend - we made it our mission to visit all the M'villes in Jamaica - We arrived on Friday evening in Montego Bay and went to the M'ville there that night - taxi ride $50 R/T from Rose Hall Plantation Resort (great hotel by the way - nice outside bar)! We had initially thought about renting a car, but that would have been a huge mistake! The taxi fees are huge, but worth not having to drive there. Mo'bay was nice - great views, nice atmosphere! On Saturday morning we headed towards Ocho Rios (1.5 hrs south) to M'ville for lunch - met up with an excellent older taxi driver in front of the hotel - Cost $150 R/T to Ocho Rios - (roads are paved in some parts, dirt in a lot of others, two lane road driving on the left, forget speed limits). Ocho Rios - great service, big, surrounded by some other interesting shops, lots of people there that time of day (cruise ship in the harbor) -- when we left we told our taxi driver we wanted to go to Negril that evening in time for cliff divers at sunset (fun to watch) and M'ville for dinner - Had a drink at the bar and rested up for a while at the hotel then hit the road again (another 1.5 hrs North to Negril (and yet another $150 R/T) - better road that direction though - they were actually paved all the way! Negril was the most beautiful beach - the cafe is right on the sand - good atmosphere, several tourists. On Sunday, we visited the M'ville at the airport - nice place for a quick bite and one last margarita before flying three hours back to Charlotte. All in all, quite an experience for just a weekend. Would love to go back and stay longer, but recommend the Ocho Rios location above the others only because it was the only location where we were not asked, "do you have everything you need...mon?" if you get the drift - One thing for sure, its certainly not hard to come by illegal substances if you're in to that. Now, if we can just get to Cancun and Vegas we'll have them all!!! It's a mission!! 8)
