I apologize, maybe poor was the wrong terminology but when it came down to it, the Sox were had a difference of 13 million they didn't want to pay? Less than two million over the life of the contract. They would have easily made that up in souvenier sales.
Some times I feel like a propeller, spin, spin outtta control. I don't who is up on the throttle, boy I wish they would let it go....

Not for nothing as a Yankee fan I understand that there is still 162 games to be played before the post season and anything can happen. There are a lot of "small market teams" that play well. Toronto, Minnesota, St. Louis, Oakland, San Fran(I'm not sure how this is considered small market when they sell out a lot of games), Florida, Anaheim, Etc.

13 million or 30 million, there are conflicting stories on which it was. The Sox offered them the best deal they could and it got rejected... no big deal. Everybody who says the Sox blew this, and George pulled off the deal that the Sox couldn't is just uninformed. I won't lie I would have liked to have AROD and Magglio but Manny and Nomar will do just fine

Despite Hicks working with Rodriguez and Boras on a restructuring, there still remains a significant hang-up in talks with the Red Sox.
Hicks wants a substantial amount of cash from the Red Sox to help pay the balance of Ramirez's contract, which is worth $97.5 million over the next five years.
Though Hicks once sought at least $20 million from the Sox for Ramirez, The Boston Globe reported Saturday that the owner was down to $13 million.
However, the Red Sox -- according to the newspaper -- turned down that offer.
If the Red Sox had accepted that offer, the money to subsidize Ramirez would have basically offset all the cash they would save in Rodriguez's proposed restructured deal.

very good and if you heard the interview with Lucchino yesterday he stated they were off by 30 million, not 13. That's what makes the stories conflictingPirateJeff wrote:Dec. 20, 2003 Red Sox Website:RAGTOP wrote:13 million or 30 million, there are conflicting stories on which it was. I'm not even going to attempt to address most of the crap being thrown around this thread.
The bottom line is the Yankees spend a ton of money on the product they sell and in return make a ton of money, and even turn a profit after paying the luxury tax etc. If the other teams ownership did the same baseball would be much more competitive. That's called a smart business model.
All the crap coming from Red Sox nation is just that...Crap. Crying over spilt milk. Last year you all carried on about offense, this year it's pitching. You've got your 1 and 2 starters one pitch from the DL and your number 3 can't pitch on the road (era over 4.5 last year if I recall). Your 4 starter gave up one of the top 5 most devastating home runs in history and could just as easily go 5-14 as 14-5.
If you bush league organization could have pulled the trigger in an extra 12 mil. (I'll never believe a word that comes out of Lucchino's mouth) you'd all still be dancing in the streets. And rubbing it in our faces.
You've got a shortstop that is the heart and soul of the team and has been told we don't want you on camera by guys he plays with. He will most likely be playing on the West Coast next year. A mental patient in left field who sure as hell can hit, but couldn't play the field to save his life, that you pay 20 mil. a year, which is more than the Yanks will EVER be paying ARod (what a bargain).
And after all this MOST of Red Sox Nation has the balls to say we s***! Want to talk about sucking...I'd say not winning in 85 years would be the text book description of the word s***.
You guys have just added another 85 years of curse to your team for passing on the second top five home run hitter of all time (history will prove me correct).
Oh yeah...I know this is the year, this year will be different. Save it. You win then you can talk. Until then bow before the mighty Yankees and take your place in line.
Now who wants to talk about who's going to Vegas this year???

RT agree with youthat baseball is popular, here, ny st louis chicago and that's about it football, on the other hand, has become the national pastime patriots preseason games were outdrawing even the sox games this year i love baseball dearly, but football is a much better take during the regular season outside of our markets i have a feeling baseball is going the way of hockey and basketball, which here in bosotn, have fallen behind the espn poker gamesRAGTOP wrote:for all of those who do not think this was good for baseball, why is baseball popularity the highest it's been in recent years? Whether we like to admit it or not baseball is first and formost a businessI wish it was different but I call them the way I see them.

even though baseballs popularity is on the rise from recent years I do agree with you that it is still behind the NFL. I think one major reason is the length of the seasons. Every game in the NFL is a playoff atmosphere for the simple fact that you lose 7 or 8 times and you'll be home for the playoffs. Hell in baseball you could lose 70+ games and still make the WS. MLB needs to make the season shorter

I have one problem with that. How many other teams had a cable TV contract that paid them $50 million/year for what was it, 10 years? How many other teams own their own cable TV station to broadcast their games? Teams like Milwaukee, KC, Pittsburgh, Tampa, Montreal, and others can't compete if it's not a level playing field. And as long as the Yankees have the advantage of huge cable TV revenue that will NEVER be available to almost all other teams, those other teams are starting off in the hole and won't be able to compete.NYCPORT wrote:The bottom line is the Yankees spend a ton of money on the product they sell and in return make a ton of money, and even turn a profit after paying the luxury tax etc. If the other teams ownership did the same baseball would be much more competitive. RAGTOP-
I have to tell you...
With this lovely
dial-up, that first pic was loading so slowly from the top down, I thought it was a joke - that they were sticking folks atop the Pru Center!
Actually they don't look to bad.
At least they appear to be sight-lined toward home plate. (Not like all the seats along the right field, where by the end of a game, you've ruined your neck and back for several days!
)
I have to tell you...
