I have been called worse. . so here goes. .Are you kidding me? Are you honestly saying that the Yankees should not have tried to get Arod??BuPHett wrote:I refuse to argue the point with anybody..anybody that attempts to justify the Yankees actions is a complete moron..is this baseball or Monopoly?
George!"We understand that John Henry must be embarrassed, frustrated and disappointed by his failure in this transaction," Steinbrenner said. "Unlike the Yankees, he chose not to go the extra distance for his fans in Boston. It is understandable, but wrong, that he would try to deflect the accountability for his mistakes on to others and to a system for which he voted in favor. It is time to get on with life and forget the sour grapes."
. . .Blame Aaron Boone for playing Basketball. . but you can not blame the Yankees for going after Arod.
When I was looking for George's quote. . I found Michael Kay's column - which says it much better than this moron can.
Here's the whole article. .. . .Finally, if you hate what the Yankees did, don't hate the Yankees because you would have done the same thing that they have done. It was a move that had to be made. Instead, hate the system and until the system is changed the Yankees have every right, in fact, an obligation to field the best team they can. With this move, that's exactly what they have done.
Yanks did what they had to do

I like John Henry, I think he is a great owner and has done great things to the Red Sox and Fewway Park since he bought the team but much like I called the Yankees hypocrites last year complaining about Pedro throwing high and tight to Karim Garcia, John Henry is sounding just as hypocritical calling for a salary cap and blasting NY for making this trade. Esp. considering this is a trade he wanted to make a few months back.
Also to clear up this whole ARod to the red sox and why it did not happen. There was more to it than the Texas's demand for money in return, they may have lowered they demand from 30M to 13M but the Red Sox still needed ARod to restructure his contract which he agreed to do but the union rejected it. The red sox couldn't take the contract as is because it would have meant that approx. 30% of their payroll was tied up in one player. The Red Sox were willing to pay Texas the 30M if the newly reconstructed contract was approved. When it comes to spending the Yankees will always be able to out spend Boston because they take in more revenue. The two people here who seems to be getting off easy are Tom Hicks for overpaying for ARod and Arod himself for signing with Texas in the first place, he claimed at the time the money had nothing to do with it he just wanted to win
The Red Sox did nothing wrong but not making this trade, I wasn't a fan of it when I first heard about it and I am still happy they didn't do it.

are you going to change your giambi avatar to reflect all the weight he dropped this year? My moles in san fran tell me jhe was on glenn andersons list along with bonds ans sheffield not to just poit at those three but i beliebe there willbe quite a few thinner players this year the fact that 5%-7% of allplayers tested for steroids last were positive, is troubling, especially when the players knew exactly when they were going to be tested if anyone has ever seenthe bonds pix from pitts 11 years ago and the pix of him now must have put on 50lbs of muscle. scary

I agree and disagree with Henry's comments. He understands that the Sox/Yanks are 1-2 in payroll however there shouldn't be an 80 million dollar difference between the two. The fact that theSox have the second highest payroll is insignificant, what is significant is that they are 80 million dollars behind highest payroll... that's what Henry has a problem with. His timing was completly wrong on this and it does come across as sour grapes as George put it. As far as I'm concerned George plays buy the rules and it's these rules that allow him to spend as much as he can afford. If we had the kind of money the yankees have I would expect us to spend at will as well. I say let the 162 games sort this mess out.

And all this having been said, I'm WAY more interested to see how Roger Clemens reacts to having to step into a batter's box.

I have never heard anybody sound like such an idiot in my life as John Henry calling for a salary cap. Thats how I feel. I agree that baseball salaries are way out of hand. But, DONT blame the Yankees for obeying the rules. The Yankees are the biggest spender but when you are second and way ahead of the third place in spending. Henry never mentioned anything about a salary cap until AROD joined the Yanks. If that isn't sour grapes, theen what is. The Yankees play by the rules even if the rules need to be changed. The luxary tax the Yanks pay also goes to the samller market teams! Until the rules are changed, Go Yanks, spend the money, there is a reason you are 26 time world champs.

Which is better for BASEBALL?
- Having the sport's overall best, most marketable, charismatic player
1)in on a last place team in town that is not as passionate about the sport
2)or having him play in a city where he is front and center to the rest of the world and has obviously stirred emotions of yankee fans and non fans alike?
