Haiti -

Aside from "African Friend", I have been a visitor to Haiti on numorous occasions since Papa doc was exiled, and have very fond memories of this country. I havn't been back since 1996 or so, but was wondering if anyone, like myself, know anyone who lives there who has gotten out with current conditions of the govt. I have friends in Petionville who, some, have decided to take a 'holiday', if you will, to Lauderdale to stay with some family. With current conditions going on there, and as they are escalting with every day, was wondering if anyone has any contacts there.......

Castro is still playing in Cuba, but the homefield advantage isn't what it used to be.

A friend just came back. She was working on some medical/social aid projects. She said they were basically confined to the hotel in the evenings and that it was very tense. Aside from nearly drowning in a kayak on the ocean at night, she had no untoward incidents!

I am going to the east end of the DR in April, but I don't think trouble can spread that far!

I've been a few times, but it was before Baby Doc left. Haven't been back since. I've been waiting for things to get better but they never seem to get to the point where I was willing to go back.
If you've never been and things do indeed get better, go! It's a wonderful, beautiful place that shouldn't be missed. I'm mostly a beach guy, but in Haiti the mountains are my favorite place to be.
Here's hoping we can go back soon!
