In the beginning...

Post by Ilph »

Okay, I'm fairly new to the whole Parrothead phenomenom. I've been a Buffett fan for about two years, and today I realized "I don't know how the whole Parrothead following started." I never really thought too much about it. Is there somewhere where I can find the history of this crazy group of people I've fallen in with?

Or let me rephase the question, I know about Timothy B. Schmidt and the origin of the term. But what's the deal with Cincinatti?

my guess is that the people in cincy started the idea of tailgaiting and wearing haiwaiin shirts and other outfits.

I'm not sure if it's in the Parrothead handbook since I don't have my copy handy but didn't he say something to the effect that "there's a particularly high concentration of Parrotheads in Cincinnati?"

As for the tailgating and the wearing of exotic garb beginning in Cincinnati, I'd have to say those activities were taking place at Buffett shows long before the Parrothead phenomenon kicked it. It just one day reached a point, where EVERYONE was doing it.

Gosh. I'd love to respond to this but, as a Newbie, I feel like " I am not worthy". :D I will leave it to the higher ups. I too remember hearing something about Cincinatti and Buffett saying it was there that he saw the highest concentration of hawaiian shirts in his life. There is also of course the correlation between Dead heads and Parrotheads and how one is the opposite in attire and demeanor from the other.

I believe both the FIN dance and the term Parrothead were coined at the ammusement park a few miles north of Cincinatti called Kings Island(went there on a feild trip last year. I treated it more as a historical journey). That and Cincinatti has I believe the 2nd parrothead club, and is one of the most Parrothead concentraed cites in the world, all through Buffetts career. 8)
and Jimmy theres still so much to be done...
