Hey Capt,
That is where me and the wife are staying. The hotel says they have a "SPORTS" bar:

End Zone Sports Bar
Location: In Hotel - 1st floor
Happy Hour with complimentary hors d'oeuvres.

Perhaps Buffett drink specials?

And Jillian's is a little over 1/2 mile away. The hotel has a shuttle, so maybe take a load of us there?

What time is everyone checking in on Thursday? 2pm? 4pm?

They said checkin is at 3 when I made my reservation. I figure I'll leave Atlanta a little before noon. The sports bar sounds good... free snax :D

We're getting ready here in Columbia. Last year the pre-concert party was at Jillian's on Gervais St., easy walking distance from the Colonial Center. The local PH club, Palmetto Parrotheads hosted the party. This year the club plans to party in special tailgate area. After the concert last year I went to the Sundance Grill, again in same area as Jillian's. There was also a good pre-concert party at Kelly's on the corner of Washington andd Park. I'll be cooking starting at noon in the parking lot, got a new recipe I call Cuban Crime of Passion. Involves a lot of thighs, black beans, garlic, cajun spice, and rice.

Thanks for all the great backup. We will be rolling in around 2pm, I guess we'll start in the Holiday Inn sports bar and follow the trail of feathers. Jillian's, Kelly's or the Parking lot. It ALL sounds good to me.

My wife and I saw Elton John & Billy Joel at the Colonial Center last year. We stayed at the Holiday Inn, and the bar was hopping after the show... 8)
As indoor venues go, I really liked the CC, and it didn't seem like there would be too many bad seats... We'll probably be rolling into the HI parking garage about noon (I hope)... 8) Looking forward to seeing some BN badges of pride... :pirate:

Well let me say an early welcome to all PH's coming to Columbia. We all had a blast last year. Well the parking area will be opening around 9am from what the lady at the Center told me. Everyone staying at the Holiday Inn or Best Western are very close to the venue. Jillians and other bars are very close. OF course we will all be tailgating bright and early in the parking lots. my group will be arriving around 11am, well at least a few of us will be. others will be arriving a bit later. Any questions feel free to PM me, I will help anyone with any questions about the area. I have lived here 21 years so pretty familiar with it. I will have my nametag on wearing it proudly.

Just wondering. Do they sell "Drinks" inside the CC? At the ALT show you could buy (for an arm and leg) margaritas and beer.

at last years show you could buy margaritas inside and I believe a few other mixed drinks. There is plenty of beer sold inside also, we had our share of coronas last year. Prices werent to bad. I went to the Aerosmith concert two weeks ago at the CC, and beer ranged from $5.50 to 7.00. Draft and bottles.

Just wanted to let you all know, here is the Palmetto Parrot Head Club pre-concert party info:

I'm not going to this show, but used to be a club member there and can attest that these people are very friendly and know how to party with a purpose.

I probably won't be hitting the parking lot too early. I wanted to find a few Geocaches on the USC campus since I am practically sitting on it once I arrive. I'll also be waiting for the rest of my party to arrive so I can give them their room key. The Sports Bar sounds like where I'll be headed first. Tho I may end up doing a parking lot foot-cruise if time permits. Just have to see what time I get there and if I can get into my room before 3 or not.

I just can't wait :D

Checked out the site. Looks like a real good time. We'll be sure to cruise over and have a corona. Now I can say, "It's this week".

Well Parrotheads only a few more days till Jimmy hits Columbia. I am getting really excited. But trying to get all this tailgate stuff ready and going through the checklists is driving me nuts. I was driving down the road today and passed a grocery store by my house that had 'WELCOME PARROTHEADS', written on their sign. thought it was pretty cool. If any of you guys have any questions for me about the area feel free to PM me. Yeah Shania Twain is in town the night before so all the hotels are pretty much packed. Cant wait to see everyone. PHINS UP from Columbia.

I have to be honest here...I can drive a submarine, but can't get this program to work for recording the concert on RM. If anyone is recording the show and are willing to help a shipmate out.... please PM me. I'd be happy to compensate for the cd and your time to get a copy. I just want a permanent reminder of a temporary feeling from the show to take back out to sea with me...See you in Columbia!!!!

I emailed the hotel a few weeks ago, and I received a very nice email back saying that due to the concert the night before, she wasn't sure how early we could check in :( , but they would let us check in as soon as a room was available... 8) We're planning on getting there about 11:00-11:30 and hanging around the lobby till a room is available... Since checkout is 12:00, I'm hoping it won't be too long a wait... :-? I sure hope we aren't the only pholks dressed in island wear...
